which one? plasma or lcd?

Hey guys,, I am recently on a tv research mode as i wanna buy my new television set.. i am plnnin to buy a 42 inches flat screen. but i am very confused on whether to buy a plasma or lcd... Some people say plasma is better and some opt for lcd. I dont know the basic differenc in two either.. just knoe that lcd has particles.. please help me out on my hunt for television.. and help me out for brand either.. sony, lg, samsung.?? which one is the best? I heard lg scarlet is very gud... what say?
