I'm looking for some ideas and suggestions for National Night Out

I took the role as the coordinator for National Night Out, in Texas it is held on October 7, 2008. National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday each August. America's Night out against crime and is designed send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The neighborhood generally turn on their porch light at a certain time. So far, we plan to have a block parties, cookout and visits from the local sheriff, fire department. But, I need ideas to entertain the children ages 5yr and up like a kids zone, can't come up with anything simple related to safety. If you have any ideas to share, I welcome them. Thanks in advance.
