Summer is nearly over ...

August 24, 2008 4:14pm CST
Well, Summer is nearly over and it has been a busy one. First off, we started out summer hols a week early by taking the kids out of school and heading off to Spain for a week on the beach in the sun. We also flew my parents and parents in law out from South Africa and took them all to Spain with us. On our return, my parents spent a week with us - boy what a busy week that was. We did nothing but run around the County with them seeing everything of interest - all day every day! It was very busy! At the end of that week we hosted a birthday party for the kids - 1 party for all 3 kids as their birthdays fall within a month of each other and they share the same friends so it was easier that way. The weather was great for the party which made it easier and the kids all had a great time. The day afte the party I fell off my daughter's midsleeper bed when the base tipped me off and managed to sprain my neck and my wrist, scrape up the side of my face (no black eye luckily) and break/fracture a rib (or 2). Lucky me. After that we waved goodbye to my parents very sadly as it will be a long time until we see them again, then we waved hello to my hubby's folks (who had been staying with his brother since Spain). They have been with us since 24 July and have just left us to go and visit with hubby's brother again for another 2 weeks before they also fly back to SA. Right, well, this is pretty much my summer in a nutshell. Only 1 week and a few days still to go in the summer hols and then back to school for the kids and back to the grindstone for me. What are you doing/have you done with your summer? Let me know, I'd be interested to hear from you with your tales. Violetdreams

I went the last week in May to visit my daughter and her family in Arizona...then came back and went to my friends house in Wisconsin for almost a week. The rest of the summer I have been gone every weekend to some sort of reunion or party! Next Sunday I join my son and his family for a week at a lodge in Northern Minnesota....then it will be time to start thinking about Christmas...and doing the crafts etc! The summer went by so fast!

Even though I'm normally working long days this time of year, instead of being at home, the summer has seemed to go by fast. Like you I need to start thinking about Christmas since some of the gifts I will be making.

Sounds like you guys have both had a good summer. OMG - Christmas already!!! I'm still thinking about Halloween - lol. Hope you enjoy/ed your week with your son at the lodge - sounds like fun. What crafts do you do? Violetdreams

It sounds like an action packed summer for you including doing your own stunts! Ours has been very quiet and dull this year. We have ploughed any spare money into doing our garden this year and so there has been none spare to do much else at all. Plus the fact that the weather has left much to be desired with very little sun and really cold temperatures at times, so a dismal summer all in all. My kids have about 6 days left of their school hols, they are not too impressed and I have spent much of this week trying to jolly them up for it and set them challenges to get them in the mood. Somehow though I do not think it is going to work!

Yeah, just getting the last bit of slabbing done in about 3 weeks, £400! It is so dear, we had a patio done and that was £300 so it has been an expensive summer to say the least. Apparently on the weather they keep saying that it is going to go warmer at weekend so fingers crossed ah? One good weekend for the kids before they go back to the classroom!

Wow, your garden must be looking great - just in time for winter - lol. Lets hope the weather stays like it was today - or even gets warmer ... for the weekend. In the Midlands today it was quite warm and was not a bad day at all. 4 days more to go ... and counting! Violetdreams

Hey Gem Yeah, but I don't make a very good stuntwoman. Sounds like you have had a good time in the garden ... Oh, yes, and don't talk to me about the weather - it has really been a horrible summer hasn't it? I am still hoping for an Indian Summer in September (lol) - guess we can hope hey? Well done for trying to get the kids back into school mode ... I should be doing the same thing, but can't find the motivation I'm afraid. Guess I should definitely get my act into gear and get the reading books out. Violetdreams

Sounds like a busy and very enjoyable summer for you sweety - apart from the accident with the bed that is! Our kids went back to school 2 weeks ago but like you they had a week off on holiday when we went to Aviemore the last week of term so it was longer for us! We haven't done a lot but have managed to spend a lot of time together so that is good! Enjoy the last few days of the holidays and look forward to the peace and quiet when the kids go back to school! xxx

The holidays are about 8 weeks.l They broke up at the end of June and went back on 20th August or so. The holidays start a lot earlier here than in England! We didn't really do anything special as I am not fit to get around - it really frustrates me I can't do much with the kids but we did spend a lot of time together! xxx

2 weeks ago? How long are your summer hols up there in Scotland? When did your Summer Hols start? Did you manage to do anything special with your kids in the time you spent with them? Violetdreams

My summer was highlighted by the simple fact that two people who annoy the crap out of me disappeared for the entire month of August. My supervisor at work took three weeks vacation and my landlord went to Canada for the entire month of August. It was a great relief. I was able to enjoy my work and have the apartment to myself. Today the supervisor arrived back at work and within a half hour pissed me out again. Life's like that.

Hey Blue Glad to hear that you had a restful summer with your 2 'favourite' people out of the picture ... but sorry to hear that they both came back and gave you grief. Hope tomorrow is a good day and they both leave you alone. Violetdreams

First off let me say that I can't believe it is almost Labor day! We are seasonal campers in a wonderful campground at the Jersey shore. We start in May and close down in October, which is way too soon for me. I homeschool my 2 youngest boys so there is no rush to get back for school but most of our friends leave after Labor day and only come down on the weekends. It is such a nice way to spend the summer for the kids. There are tons of other kids there, lots of activities and of course the beach.
27 Aug 08
Wow, a whole summer camping - what fun. Of course, only fun if the weather is good and there is a beach nearby (in my humble opinion anyway) - lol. How do you manage homeschooling 2 kids - how old are they? I have thought about home schooling mine, but don't think I could cope. I need the break while they are in school each day. Enjoy the rest of your summer at the beach. Violetdreams

we went to water country this summer. which was fun while it lasted. 1 hour there and it sarted to thunder so everyone got kicked out. also we went to slaet park which has a petting zoo, and park and a carasol. it was alot of fun to take the kids there. other then that its been a pretty laid back summer. and school starts back up in 3 days
27 Aug 08
Sounds like a fun summer. You obviously have young kids to be doing all that sort of thing. Pity about the thunder - you must have been disappointed to be kicked out after only 1 hour. Have fun violetdreams

Sounds like you had a very busy summer, glad you were not hurt anymore seriously than you were. I kind of got an early start to my summer, I injured my wrist at work (wildland firefighter) and was put on medical leave by my boss. So other than being frustrated with the doctor that I was first going too, and all the xray's, mri's and such, I am now seeing a specialist and hopefully on my way to recovery. It has been a pretty quiet summer for me. I have spent most of it spending my days at home with my dog. We have gone for walks, spent time outside in the sun, and evenings with my s/o. I have also been doing some scrapbooking (has orders for 3 of them for girls on a softball team) and taking lots of photographs. Our weather here has been nice this summer, never really did have very many days that got hot, I live in the Northeast USA. I do have a trip planned for the end of October, to go see my oldest daughter, we're going to a scrapbook weekend retreat.
27 Aug 08
Sorry to hear you got hurt, but at least you are getting better. Wildland firefighting sounds interesting if dangerous. Glad you've had some good weather - ours has been dismal this year! What's new for the UK? What do you put in the scrapbooks? Do people give you the things that they want put into their books, or how does it work? Still a while to go until your trop to see your daughter, but a scrapbook retreat sounds like fun. Enjoy Violetdreams

This summer was the best summer of my entire life so far! I managed to go through 4 wonderful jobs and school. I moved from my home in Texas to Louisiana. I also got engaged this summer! (My jobs were Walmart (TX), Lake country inn hotel (TX), Nursing home (tx), and the hospital (LA). I was going to school to get my nursing license back at the nursing home while working for walmart and the hotel. It was a very busy and rewarding summer!

Congratulations on your engagement. Sounds like you have had a very busy summer. Now you got to get ready to hit life head on! lol. Good luck with everything - nursing, engagement. Have fun violetdreams
