I was watching Joel Osteen this afternoon and he started the program off with this joke that really hit me funny, probably because of where I work. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as well and I hope I tell it well. One day, a priest came to the Pearly Gates of Heaven and there was a guy in front of him who was dressed in a loud shirt, blue jeans and sunglasses. St. Peter asked him what his name and occupation was. The man said his name was Joe something and he was a taxi driver in New York City and St. Peter looked in his book and found his name and handed the man a silk robe and a gold staff. Joe took them in hand and walked away smiling. Then, the priest stepped up and St. Peter asked him his name and occupation. He said he was Father so-and-so and he pastored St. Mary’s Cathedral. St. Peter looked at his book and found the priest’s name then handed him a cotton robe and a wooden staff. The priest was incensed and asked how that guy in front of him could get a silk robe and gold staff and yet he ended up with a cotton robe and wooden staff. St. Peter explained that they (in Heaven) rewarded based on results. He said that when he (the priest) preached, people slept but when the taxi driver drove, people prayed!
