Ok, so my mother, who is 46, was recently diagnosed with emphysema. The doctor who was standing in while her pcp was on vacation actually had the nerve - after looking at mother and with no empathy telling her her condition- to say he was intigued at how a woman who is in her great phyicall condition could have such an advanced COPD. What kind of doctor would say something like that to someone who just had a bomb dropped on them. He actually wanted to "study" her. He said that she would just have to deal. Has anyone else had a similar instance with doctors? It a medical practice called that because thats all the professionals do...is practice?

Oh yes both my husband and i have it,and it no fun but the Dr could have told her in her in a better matter. But most Dr's are like that.I am sorry to hear that your mother has this, takes extra good care of herself.Being as she is in such good physical condition, she should do very well.God Bless.

yeap the doctor was a complete tool. i think the hardest part of having this condition is that right now she can't be around my kids let alone look at them and she can get sick and i think that hurts her more than anything...the kids miss their nana. she goes back to the doctor in 3 months for another stress test and to have another ct done to see if it procressing or getting worse. luckily my grandmother has convinced her to go to a doctor in north carolina and she is going to pay for my mom to go. aparently he is a specialist. thanks for your concern it helps to deal with it when people care.

Sorry to hear about your mother's condition. That was very unprofessional what the doctor said to her. She should report him to the AMA, (America Medical Association). It is unfortunate that everyone who is supposed to be educate does not have tact when speaking to other's. Wishing her the best!!!

Thank you. It is much appreciated! I never even thought of having her do that. I will let her know. what makes it worse is that the doctor is with the navy. my dad is enlisted and so she has to go to their doctors or else she pays out of pocket....completely different issue i have though.lol.
