Al-Qaeda. Winning or losing?

Al-Qaeda has made terrorism truly global, to deadly effect. But it may yet prove to be its own worst enemy, says Anton La Guardia in his Economist article. http://www.economist.com/specialreports/displayStory.cfm?story_id=11701218 See the graph of terror related deaths since 1997. What is your opinion? Is the Islamic group Al Qaeda winning or losing in the war against terror?

Coffeechat, The quote below indicates the author at the linked article still has not really figured out the American objective in Iraq after the fall of Saddam. That is, the reason they stayed beyond toppling Saddam. Here's the quote. "America, however, then walked into a trap of its own making by invading Iraq in 2003. It got rid of a dangerous dictator but gave the jihadists a popular cause against American occupiers in the Muslim heartland." Walked into a trap of their own making? LOL... the USA set a trap! Anyone think not? Let me explain. USA military KIA totals for the entire Iraq war have been something like 4000 killed. The USA actually loses many times more people than that to murder in our big cities over the same time frame. In other words, the USA casualties in Iraq are miniscule. But what about the enemy? How many casualties is Al Qaeda taking? That's right, it is darn hard to find out. Want to know why? Because it does not serve the USA's war aim for the information to get out that radical Islamic fighters are being killed to such an extent it is a slaughter. The CIA influenced media in the USA has dominated news coverage of the Iraq war with a propaganda machine to very good effect. The impression had been created by American propaganda in the past (people are starting to catch on now) that for a young radical to go to Iraq was the thing to do if he wanted to kill infidels for Allah. Actually, and it always has been that way, going to Iraq was mostly only the way to die for Allah. You see, instead of trying to ineffectively hunt these violent Muslims down around the world, US Generals brillantly lured them to Iraq where they could be killed in droves. The number of radically violent potential fighters and their leaders has been greatly reduced. After the fall of Saddam, the Iraq war was used by the USA military as a killing ground for the most extreme of radical Islam. Al Qaeda not only has lost, they were never winning. US influenced news sources delibrately created the false impression the USA was losing to increase the effectiveness of the killing machine. Yes, it is true. Especially useful were normally anti USA news sources as they had creditablility when they repeated the "US IS LOSING" disinformation they were fed without their knowledge. Al Qaeda was duped and is run by fools. Here's some free advice for Al Qaeda. I hope they pay attention. STOP THE ARMED STRUGGLE NOW. Take a page from the book of Martin Luther King. Non violence is extremely effective in this modern information age when the world can judge what is happening almost instantly. Martin Luther King used non violence because he knew he was out gunned, but that public opinion would support black people's struggle for fairness if it could be viewed in that light instead of protrayed as an armed revolution. In the same way Martin Luther King got public opinion on his side through non violence so could Al Qaeda. The public of the world will support Al Qaeda if their struggle is viewed as striving for peace and not war. Al Qaeda, return to the teachings of the Prophet Mohammad that make it a religion of peace. Then you will surely defeat the USA but everyone will win.

Incisive Red, Whether such a strategy was incepted in the hallowed corridors of the Brookings institution, the Heritage Foundation or the basement at Langley does not matter - there is a distinct ring of plausibility to the scheme. Non-violent advocacy is certainly a good prescription. After all the achievements of Gandhi, King and Mandela are a constant reminder of the success. However with the Fatwas issued by Bin Laden, it would appear that they have discarded the teachings of their great religion of peace. Like lemmings Iraq-wards do they head.

Hi Coffeechat ! War is that , That has to be fought from face to face . not like this to kill innocent People . They are simply mindless, crural , Anti Social Elements . Theyy told themselves ISLAAMIC by doing such thing in Month of RAMZAAN . It Simply means they are ANTI ISLAMIC too. They Dont Have any Religion . So Al Qaeda like people who never comes out from their caves. Because they know that what will happen next tp them So Winning & Loss is Useless here !! By the Way Happy MyLotting

Now its been three years you started this discussion and war is still going on.I think USA has neither won nor it has been defeated by quida. Radical Islam has started gripping USA and UK at home. How they are going to fight there is the real question.
