This is the follow-up discussion to the one I started on the fact that my friends were vigiling in front of horrible Philadelphia nursing home, in an effort to liberate people who've choosen to get out of the institution.
Got the following message from my activist buddies in Philly. It was sent at 9:33 PM yesterday. They got a meeting with the Mayor by the end of September. If he's smart he won't try to get out of it, otherwise my friends will just be back again. The actual victory email follows.
"After 5 nights and 6 days of disabled activist from
ADAPT of Philadelphia camping out outside the
Philadelphia Nursing Home Mayor Michael Nutter
finally came out in public and said he would begin the
phased closure, beginning with the 50 residents that
have chosen to get out. In Nutter's last act before he
travels to Denver for the Democratic National Convention
he agreed to meet with ADAPT before the end of September
on the agenda of closing down this hell hole.
ADAPT of Philadelphia would like to thank all of you
around the world for your support which inspired
everyone at the camp each night and kept us going.
Hopefully we inspired you in a small way to end the
segregation of disabled people world wide."
