Warner Bros. files a lawsuit against a film about a 10-year-old Indian boy.Lawsuit against Mumbai-based producer/distributor Mirchi Movies related to the title of its upcoming film "Hari Puttar -- A Comedy of Terrors," which Warners feels is a tad too similar to its franchise about a certain young wizard. Do you think there will be many of these suits as movie distibutors from other countries try to capitolize on the success of the HP films? Why do you think they don't try and make films that stand on their own? Is it just laziness? http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080825/film_nm/hari_dc

I don't think and Indian movie with the title would ever hurt the Harry Potter movies or franchise... because a lot of people are not that stupid... but i see the humor in the title Hari Puttar... and i don't think Warner Bros will win in this law suit...

I tend to agree with you, aseretdd. This will in no way impact any revenue that might have gone to the real Harry Potter and will probably only make it more popular. These lawsuit-happy lawyers need to get a grip and realize that the more "buzz" around their product, be it fan fiction, you-tube spoofs, or whatever, only increases their own bottom line by making their 'product' more popular without costing them anything. And its fun for us to have something else to look at while we wait for them to bring out the next movie or book of the real thing.

I have nothing against the movie but the truth is in the poster of the movie you can see a man just like Hagrid. Of course they took advantage of the name Harry Potter (although Hari Puttar means something in hindu) to make a movie and make people interested in the movie. Some people just want to make money no matter what!

Sounds just like politicians do to get elected have a name similar to what people know already. Harry Potter is so well known I am sure noone would make the mistake of confusing Hari Puttar with Harry Potter.

Well, face it people are lazy and greedy, and someone is trying to make money off of harry potter. They deserve a lawsuit.

Well, I think the issue is a little silly unless it digs deeper than just some phonetic similarities of name. I mean, I don't know much about this movie, but it doesn't sound like a Harry Potter rip-off at first blush.

Its not laziness. Its a way to capitalize on others success. I think Hari Puttar will have no impact on original Harry Potter beacuse all the Harry Potter fans know about the names of the books and Daniel Radcliffe, on screen Harry Potter. The other producer can go to hell
