These two office softwares are cool but the difference between them is that one is freeware while the other's paid. Is OpenOffice a good software to replace with Microsoft Office? Would you stick to it or not?

Right now I have both software suite on my computer. I use OpenOffice for my Linux and I use Microsoft Office for my Windows operating system (OS). Both OS are installed on my laptop.
One thing I want with OpenOffice is that it can easily convert files into pdf format.
The feature I want with MS Office 7 is that there are many image effects on Microsoft Word now.
Anyway, files created from one of the office suite is supported by the other as long as the file was saved as .doc, .xls or .ppt.

OpenOffice is a good software to replace Microsoft Office. However, there are also limitations. I could't open protected files on OpenOffice. So if its for home use, OpenOffice should be alright, but if its for work and the files are confidential and always protected, you will want to go with Microsoft Office.
