i just attended a Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Symposium held about few days ago. being in the medical field, i personally witness the difficulty in finding blood available for transfusion to extend patients' lives. and so, one of the programs of the department of health is a blood typing program to be facilitated by local health workers. i have known mine since i was in college, being a member volunteer of the Philippine National RED CROSS makes it mandatory. knowing our own blood type is indeed essential to life!

did they really not test it? how far you sure on it? not questioning you but merely asking. coz i believe, even if they said it to you they still have to do a cross matching before they gonna proceed in transfusing the blood. that's the routine in the lab.

My blood type is B- I only have one other person in my family thats the same type I am. They say its a rare type. I think its important to know what your blood type is because one of these days, you may need blood, and they'll be able to find out what yours is. I think everyone should give blood, it may save a life.

Hi wendhie, yes, I do know my blood type. I also know the blood type of my daughter and my husband. I know how important it is to know your blood type. I have required transfusions twice, and you are correct. It is very important that a person should know their own blood type. Young, healthy people, a lot of times do not even think about it. However, even young, healthy people can be injured in accidents, and knowing their own blood type could mean the difference between them living and dying.

i do not know my blood type. I had a blood test recently and i asked my doctor if the lab could type it and she said no because it would cost too much money and they only type blood when it is absoloutely necessary!

I personally do know my blood group. I think it is very important for you to know your blood group. In fact, I keep a card in my purse with the details on my blood group, just in case I meet with an accident etc., people would know the group straight away without waiting for blood tests etc. I recommend this to others as well. Also, I think if you are an healthy individual, it is also advisable to donate blood at least once every year. Cheers! Ram

truly indeed.. aside from the value of knowing it, it is also beneficial when time comes you needed some transfusion thereby cutting off the time in cross matching your own. i too knew mine during college coz it's mandatory at school and is part of our requirements.

I personally don't know mine off the top of my head. But in some cases i believe it's possible to work it out from your parents blood type.

we must know our blood type so that we could anticipate the problems that might occur because of blood transfusion

ya i think its very important to know about it.....supposed in an emergency situation like when you or some other fella lost blood from from some accident(say)& you've to know your blood group in transfusing blood cos it'll takes time in testing in which group you are...so can't effort much time in such situation. well mine is B+
