How to store mushrooms - do you know?

I love fresh mushrooms. The problem is, besides them being expensive, is they never last in the refrigerator. There are only two of us at home now so things aren't finishes in just one or even two meals, especially fresh vegetables. I bought a package of nice white whole mushrooms and not even two days later they were turning brown and feeling slimy. Does anyone know how to can store mushrooms so they last at least a few days?

Yes mushrooms are a favorite of ours at home too but being a family of 5 they dont last long enough to go off, but anyway when you buy your mushrooms do you get them in a plastic bag or in a paper bag? because they sweat to much in the plastic and last a bit longer in the paper so if you don't do this I would give that a try.

Yes they come in a foam carton covered with plastic. I take the plastic off and usually cover them with a paper towel. That hasn't worked for me. I'll try the paper bag. Thanks for the tip.
