Do You Think the Internet Facilitate the Understanding between Different Culture

The internet offers us a chance to get to know each other, regardless of where we live. And I have made quite a few friends over the years just from the internet and they are all from different countries. I think I learn other countries (which I am always interested in cultures and differences) better and maybe other cultures and thinking better. I think I become more “tolerant” (not sure if it’s a good word) towards the differences between cultures and every time I find a difference, I think it’s interesting. What about you?

I have made many friends from the Internet but no one is still with me. They just talk for some days or weeks and then no sign of them. You start thinking what happened? But Internet is just like this. I am thankful to God I never got cheated over the Internet. Some of my friends got cheated. Boys acted like girls and kept on talking with them for months. In the end, when they came to know, they were so humiliated and ashamed of themselves that they stopped making friends on the Internet. My experience as I already have told you is not good also, so please me count me off from this, sorry.

The internet - such a wonderful invention where one can become a global citizen without leaving his armchair. I learn about other cultures all the time from the internet, so if I ever meet any of them I'll know what to do and what not to do.

YES, I totally agree with you. Having connections with different people from all walks of life and from all types of cultures, belief and customs makes it easier to understand those cultures and makes it more interesting rather than scary. I think one of the reasons why there is so much misunderstanding between people is mainly due to misunderstanding in beliefs and the general lack of interest in even just trying to understand why some people have different beliefs and cultures. The internet in it's own way crosses out the disinterest, since you can talk to someone who believes in that certain culture and you also get to search and research it around the web and thereby fostering a beginning of understanding why a set of beliefs and culture occurs or occured in a specific place.

Tolerant is a good word. If we did not have the internet, then I would have to update my passport and physically travel more because I must have international contacts. The world is too big and too interesting to be insular. One has to be careful these days, though, as there are some very shady characters lurking on the internet and elsewhere that will try to take advantage of cultural differences to get personal information they shouldn't have, etc.

Hello wondericequeen, I agree that internet offers a lot of benefits to us. We get to know new people, new cultures and almost everything here. But, in a real life it is not always a bed of roses. Sometimes it is just hard to understand the differences. I think you know what I mean. It is not easy to tolerate one another all the times. Sometimes, it makes your life harder and sometimes it is yes, a good thing that happens in life *smiles*

I love mylot and the different opinions from all over the world. I wish it had existed before. I found out that in Australia, they have garage sales at the same places that they have drive-in theaters (only called boot sales for the trunks of their cars where people can bring stuff and sell out of their trunks). I would have suggested something similar up here and maybe the drive-in theaters would still be in existance instead of having to close down. Also some things that I learned I wish I had known years ago. Esp. about saving money. So yes, this is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Internet is truly wonderful and you learn many things from it. Unfortunately, I have not used it as much to learn about other cultures. I do not have many online friends from other countries. Still, it is a wonderful tool and who knows, maybe I will use it one day to learn about other cultures too. Cheers!!

Internet is really a powerful tool to unite all people of different colors and places. Any idea that can be brought up which can be tackled by anybody under the sun can be communicated through this technology. Different ideas can be united to be shared and discussed. Knowledge and questions on anything can be at your eyes in a matter of seconds. Two people can be one no, matter the distance and culture. Its really a great tool if only this can be utilized on good things.

Yes wondericequeen your absolutely right. The internet is indeed a place where we get to meet people across the globe and understand them even better. I too have made many good and really nice friends over the internet. We get to know things about their country, what kind of culture they follow, exactly how warm and friendly they are by having a chat with them off and on etc. So its a wonderful thing the net has to offer us. I got a few friends from Romania which does not happen to be my county but all the 3 of them are such sweet and friendly people and very helpful too. This reflects on their country too and i assume all Romanians are nice people like them.

I think it is the best thing about the internet. There are no national boundaries and we can get to know more people than it would ever be possible to do in our daily lives. I know there are bad things about the internet too, but so much goodness can come from people of different religious and social backgrounds making connections and sharing their ideas and thoughts. The more information there is on the internet, the more difficult it will be for governments, dictators and powerful organizations to try and control people by keeping them in ignorance or by giving them false information.
