Do You Say Hi to Your Neighbour ?

As I live in a apartment, I seldom see my neighbors - sometime, I do not even know there live in the same apartment as me. Every day, when I reach home, I will just shut the door and do my own stuffs, seldom communicate with my neighbors. Do anyone here still greet and say 'hi' to your neighbors every time you see them? Even when you are in a rush?

Yes I do. I say good morning to them when I meet them in the morning and sometimes I talk to them and we talk about what is happening around us, but there is this one neighbor that I try not to talk or even say hi to. He is an old man and he seems to be so much interested in everything and sometimes he would stand in front of our gate just o we would acknowledge him we try to avoid because he is creepy.

Hello Pehpot, You really got an interesting neighbor, maybe he is just too bored that he is starting to approach you, so he can start a conversation with him. Well, maybe he is doing it the wrong way or overdoing it. Maybe you should tell him this, if not he will feel he is being ignored.

Hello n30wing, That is an interesting way to interact with your neighbors, but if they are thinking the same way as you, then probably all of you will be waiting for each other to start the greeting first - but it will never happen. Good night to you too.

Like you I don't always see my neighbours that often , we live in a row of houses and we seem to go out at different times of the day, even on the school run. But I do always say good mornnig to them and if there is time I will pas the time of day with them. But we all do tend to keep ourselfs to our selfs

Hello Anne18, That's great, as least you take the trouble to pass the day with your neighbors, for me , it will probably be at the bottom of my list since I seldom interact with them. Becoming too close to them all of a sudden can have backfire effect - it will scare them off. They will be wondering why this guy is so friendly all of a sudden.

We have the same situation, living in an apartment.I seldom see our neighbors though i am a stay a home mother.Another thing they are not our close friend.Quite true when you close the door you seem to don't care about them and mind your own business .When we bump to them we just say hi and hello.....that's it.

Hello Misty99, At least your neighbors are still friendly with you. I once had a neighbor that scold me whenever I see them, as they have some conflicts with my parents (I am the real victim then!). Anyway, it is best to keep at neutral to friendly level than being hostile. It will be a nightmare if this day comes again for me.

Hi There Deltasswat, We'll i don't often see my neighbors also since i am busy with work but i know some of them. Everytime i see them i will just smile and say hello. But that would be it. It's really like you do your own stuff and i do mine. This is brought about us being busy persons. But sometimes i do wish also that i could find true neighbors whom you could chit chat and be there in times of need. :)

Hello Hayashane27, Yes, it is hard to find a neighbor who you can speak freely to, as if he or she is your good friend. Sometime there is something that is bothering us and we have no else to turn to. Well, it will be good if there is a neighbor there for us to open our heart, if not, there is always myLot! :)

I have a few neighbours i wave hi to...Actually only 2...One who lives just the opposite to my house and one by the side. I usually see my neighbours in their kitchen which gives in my bedroom window. However i never say hi or wave to them then coz i cannot see very well without my glasses and i never wear them at home. So i just make as if i can't see them...yeah, it's not polite but how can i know they are watching my way?

Hello ReenaDKL, Ha ha, it will be funny if they happen to wave to you but you didn't see them clearly, so you end up ignoring them. They will probably be saying - why is that person so arrogant? Maybe you should hang up a sign that says "Bad eyesight, waves will be ignored". Anyway, I am just joking, don't take it too seriously.

We dont know our neighbours very well and we dont have a lot to do with them, but we always pass the time of day with them, and they with us,I would hate to be in and out of each others houses,it just makes for arguments half of the time, but it does no harm to always be well mannered and polite and to just pass the time of day with each other.

Hello Paraj111, That is great, at least you take the trouble to smile at them. Everyone of us here will either look away or look down at the floor when we saw each other, I not too sure why either. Maybe we are just too shy to take the first step or too afraid to make contact with strangers.

I think it depends on what place you are in. Especially here in my country, it is a practice to have good relationship with our neighbors. I believe a simple hi is not too much even if you are in a rush. At least to make them feel that you notice them and you know they are there...

I really admire all my friends who always tell me how good and friendly their neighbours are. I am always so jealous...Because currently, i have no idea what is the name of the family living on my left, right, up, down..i only roughly remember their faces..to the extent that.. we can be walking side by side all the way from the mrt to the block, taking the same lift, alighting at the same level, turning into the same direction..then i realise oh, we are neighbours. sad right? not too long ago, the family living on my right shift house. and guess what. my whole family had no idea about it only until the day we saw ppl shifting stuff out of their house. I really hope to have good and nice neighbours..how?
