i recommend you to use macromedia dreamweaver. i am using it for designing web pages. it is simple and user friendly. you can use dreamweaver cs3. it is the latest one available now.other editors are not so easy. dreamweaver has many shortcuts also.

I suggest you learn first the basics in HTML. IT is easy to learn anyway. :) Doing it in a simple text editor is a big advantage when you want to edit codes done with WYSIWYG HTML editors. If you're planning to create a page using a free editor, just type in "free html editor" in your favorite search engine. If you have OpenOffice Word Processor installed in your computer, you can use it to create your page. Just save the document created in .htm format.

Hey if you want full version software for free or you will buy a full version software the best software for beginners was Microsoft front page 2003 are any one because I'm using front page it was very nice and very easy like word. if you want free full version you search in torrents you will find one if you want to buy it go to microsoft main website and purchase it.

I'll recommend jEdit. Its very powerfull, but will not give you the facilities of Dreamweaver like auto-fill, open tags checking, data binding etc. But still jEdit is very powerfull in text processing and searching.

The best way to create a website is to code it all from scratch. You will get the personal satisfaction that is it your work entirely. However, if you need the help of a WYSIWYG editor then there are tons all over the internet that you can look up. I recommend Dreamweaver or Frontpage but they cost money.
