Can cavies be covered by pet medical insurance?

My dear little cavy "Sqweeky" is about 5 years old and is bleeding when he poops. I have wanted to take him to the local vet but the cost for even just an office visit is almost $50. And that is just the visit; no labs, no x-rays, no medication. My one visit will run me over a hundred dollars. My husband and I are on a tight budget as it is with me being unemployed. Does anyone know if there is a pet insurance that covers guinea pigs?

Yes, several companies cover them. A few people who have adopted from me got pet insurance. That's always something to think about when you get a pet, they cost a lot if they have to go to the vet. I try to keep at least $500 in savings just incase of emergencies at all times. But sometimes I have had guinea pigs that went well over $1,000 at the vet. It's just something you have to deal with sometimes. A lot of vets can work out payment plans with you. You're unlikely to be able to get insurance when your guinea pig is already sick. In the long run, I think insurance always costs more. Unless you have the foresight to know which guinea pig is going to get very very sick and need thousands of dollars of vet care.

I have guinea pigs, I don't have them covered by pet medical insurance, but I think you can get pet medical for any decent size animals these days
