"There really is no time for any frivolity. People are already working two jobs to put gas in the tank, so they can drive from the first job to the second job. People need to spend as much of their free time as possible for candidates," says Moore, who believes that electing progressives will improve the economy, and in the long run, enable people to read more. Do you agree with Michael Moore? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080819/ap_en_ot/fall_books;_ylt=AqZpYliWXW_rSe18nHfO9AtREhkF

HAHAHA! I only skimmed the link, but he's joking, right? And, if he isn't, he's still darn funny. Even if people didn't read, that doesn't mean they're going to spend their time on the candidates. They'll just likely find other so called "frivolous" things to occupy their time. Or, they might find other worthy causes to devote themselves to. He can't honestly think that the only possible thing that matters are the candidates. If he does, well, all I can do is laugh again. *considers what book to read next*

Well, that was an interesting way to promote his book. I still think he's an idiot and don't plan to read his book...but I will read others!

I don't agree with Michael Moore, and I do a lot but not in this case. I am going to work hard to get Barack Obama elected. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to give up reading. I particularly want to read "The Promised Land: 13 Books That Changed America," and thank you for bringing it to my attention. I don't think that, although we have important political work to do, we should completely exclude culture and art from our lives in order to do it. What kind of life is that? Not one I want to live.

Interesting comment there by Micheal Moore, not a big fan of him myself. Haven't seen any of his movies--he is too liberal by half. I think people should read more not less. Reading of any type is not a frivolity but educational. It makes us think, feel and react. It helps our brains by allowing it to function about the TV watching stage. And besides, if people don't read they will just watch TV not work for the candidates anyways. So READ READ READ, I say.

Generally, I listen to Michale Moore. I might not believe everything he says, but I'm willing to listen. As to not reading books, people do need to relax after work. Books are a good way to do that. It would be like saying, don't watch TV. What will people do with their time? I don't think many people are going to go out and campaign for progressive candidates. Progressives won't win. You have to choose between experience which is the same as the last eight years or utter lack of experience which may be as bad or worse, but is at least different.

I have no idea who Moore is, and I don't want really want to know. But if you see him, tell him that if people read the right books at the right time, they can one much better paid job. Also, I don't think I'm the only one seeing th obvious lack of logic in that statement: if the money you get from the first job are only sufficient for paying the gas to go to from the first job to the second, why not quit the first job so you won't have to drive between them? Maybe because he doesn't want people to stop buying so much gas (because the always increase in gas price fills some pockets)?

Sounds interesting ! I am very impressed with the number of postings you have made. I used to read books years back. Now with all the busy time with my full time job, haven't had the time to relax with books these days. I appreciate you reminding !

I usually only read late at night when I am in bed. I have trouble sleeping and the books wil help me to go to sleep. It is part of my nighttime ritual. I like to go to sleep with some reading at night. It allows me to entertain my brain, unwind and go out on a good note. I may read if my computer and or tv go out in the coming storm.
