My computer recently did an automatic update on my XP within the last few days. I noticed my IE slowed down. My Zone Alarm updated also. Since both the updates, I've noticed my IE is even slower. A friend said yesterday she thought hers had gotten slow from the PTC sites. Is anybody else having this problem or is it just my computer needing an upgrade??? Your guess will be better than mine!!!

LadyMarissa, it is of my opinion that Zone Alarm alone is a resource hog.
I bet the update you received was XP's service pack 3. Have you tried Firefox compared to IE, i find it generally faster all the way around.

Firefox has an add on, you can download, that allows you to open a site that requires IE in Firefox, called IE Tab. Don't have 500 posts, yet, so I can't paste the URL in, but, doing a search of their add ons, for that name will bring it up.
Blessings!

My hubby had installed Firefox on my old 98 computer. I didn't notice it being any better than IE on that puter. Maybe I need to install it on this computer. One thing I didn't like about FF was a lot of sites I went to wouldn't work on FF & I'd end up opening IE to get what I needed. Maybe I do need to reconsider!!!

My spyware is in my Zone Alarm. I've been using it for over a year with no problem until I renewed & updated last night. As it turns out it seems like there was a problem all over the country today. Once that stopped everything went back to being normal. So I'm fine again

Yes, I think it was the net. I heard on the news that there was a problem nationally up until about 5:00 pm After that it seems to have cleared up.

Well buddy i haven't faced anything of that sort. And please my suggestion would be start using Firefox man. Its a million times better than Internet Explorer trust me on this one.
It has many more features that even Internet Explorer 7 doesn't have and works much faster than IE and also has a much better Interface to offer. From the day i saw Firefox i like occasionally open IE anymore these days.

Turns out it was an internet problem but after listening to everybody say how good Firefox is I did start using it. I just had to wait for the internet problem to clear up before I could download it. I tested my connection speed & it was 2mps & then checked it again & it was 638kps. When I first tried to download Firefox, it said it would take 2 hours to download. I was only getting 326kps. I have cable connection of 10mps so I knew there was a problem. I waited a few minutes & then did the download again. It only took 30 secs. Then they told on the news about a nationwide problem & they thought it had been cleared up. I'm now using Firefox & will see if it helps any. I used it years ago & was not that impressed with it. I was using Win98 then. Seemed like I was always opening IE to get what I needed done so I just went back to IE. So maybe with all the upgrades & different operating system, I will like it better. My mind is open.

I can tell you that the upgrade that happened a few days ago really messed with my PC. I had to do all kinds of upgrades. The one that just happened, I haven't restarted my PC yet BUT I can tell you that IE refuses to load the msn home page LOL

I'm glad to know it's not just me. Actually, I'm NOT glad, but it is good to know. Now I know I don't need to put it in the shop. I hope Microsoft does an update in the next day or 2 to fix this problem!!!

The problem seems to have cleared up. We all get burned out every now & then!!! I'll be at the hospital for the next several days. I plan on taking my laptop. Don't know if they have a rule against using it. They have a rule for no cell phones but don't seem to enforce it. So I may or may not be here the next few days. My brother is supposed to come on weekends to give me a break.

Not sure what to tell you Lady. Mine is not slower. The only time it seems to get slow on me is when my anti virus is either updating or running a scan but then it speeds back up after it is finished. Sometimes mine does slow down due to needing a boot but it usually freezes up on me.

I usually need to reboot about once a day. Today I've rebooted 4 times already & it's not even dark yet. I know just enough about my computer to be dangerous. If I know what I'm looking for I can usually work my way around it. I'm just not good at diagnosing.

I think you have received service pack 3 update, it final service pack release of Xp, and includes lots of new security features but at the same time consumes lots of system resource, and zonealarm slows down pc a lot,i migrated from zonealarm to Avira long back . but i dont think service pack 3 will slow down ur internet connection by great extent, i feel its zone alarm which is causing problem and it may not be compatible with latest service pack 3 update, but not sure about this.
