company sent verification that the following Friday, the hs would be installed, and yesterday, they left a message on our machine that it will be this coming Friday, so for 2 days I will be running around like a chicken trying to clean up in a hurry.
So have you had conflicting signals or messages about when something would happen? Did you think guests, relatives, friends, or business people were coming one day and then they ended up coming another? I'm excited about getting my hs asap, but not about all the hurrying to clean. Was the earlier or later time better or worse for you? Wish me luck at getting the place desent before the man to hook it up shows up.

This can be so annoying. Don't blame you for trying to clean and get the house in order before a service person shows up. I don't have problems with service people but moreso with our cleaning lady. Of course I don't have to clean in order for her to come here but she says she will be here and then calls she is sick or something else came up. I do move things off my husband's dresser in order for her to clean because he wants things in a certain plance all the time. He's not real good about change. So I end up cleaning and putting things back. If she's sick I understand but to place another client in my time or day can be so annoying. It's like our house doesn't count! Slowly losing my patience with her.

If you have a scheduled time for her to be there, then unless you have a reason to change it, seems like you should get first priority.
Back when I had money, I hired and got rid of so many cleaning people.
1. Said she'd come and didn't show up.
2. Told her not to throw out my magazines until I had sorted through them. She threw a bunch of Mother Earth News in a burning barrel (which luckily I didn't use, so rescued them).
3. One came once and called to say she had found another job (too bad, I liked her)
4. Another one came here just fine, but she couldn't see dirt. How do you clean when you can't see dirt? I had to stick with her like glue or else she'd miss corners when she was sweeping, half clean the dishes, etc.
It's like they're supposed to be working for you, but they just really get on my nerves.

I've been too lazy to look for another one. Our house is so big and I ain't getting any younger..lol She's not cheap and think she's been fudging on the time when I am not home. She is very trustworthy. Something else I noticed that totally grossed me out was she would drink from a coffee mug and just place it back in the cabinet. I told her, once I found out, to put it in the dishwasher.

She's trustworthy in that she doesn't steal, but you can't trust her to not drink and put stuff back in the cabinet without washing it first. Since Hepetitus is easily gotten that way, I would have freaked out.

Oh writersedge, you sound like me! I usually want the house to be "presentable" before any service people come in. My husband just rolls his eyes when I say I have to clean first. But he's learned to go along with me on that. I actually prefer the earlier time, then I don't have time to worry, I just have to get to cleaning. I do get frustrated if they keep switching the times on me, though.
Good luck with your cleaning up, writersedge, but try not to worry about it too . much. I'm sure those service people have seen all kinds of home and don't think a single thing about a house once they step out the door!

My husband agrees the place needs cleaning (shows how bad it is). I thought I had one and a half weeks, now I have two days. But yes, I really would rather have it sooner than later. Esp. since they will bill us for all of Sept either way. Thanks and take care.

I remember when we got the broadband in it was really quick but a nightmare as I had to move the settee which weighed a ton and I wasn't happy that the guy who did put the broadband in, didn't offer to help me move it.
I really hate when plans get changed or someone arrives early as I like to make sure the flat is tidy and not the mess it usually is as I like guests to be comfortable and not slipping on newspapers on the floor.
I'm sure you'll have everything sorted by the time the man arrives, as long as he has the space to work in that should be enough.

True, at least they gave us some kind of warning. When someone shows up without warning, the dust bunnies behind stuff (like the CPU) can be embarassing.
I can't believe he didn't even offer to help you.
Yes, we have the newspaper problem, too. I asked my husband if we could have a newspaper box for the house and he had some problem with it. I think all the newspapers organized and in one space like a magazine rack or something would be so much better. Thanks and take care.

Yes, changing dates and/or times can certainly throw things into a dither. Thanks and take care.
