Does anyone else get frustrated any stressed while fighting to free a new toy from its unnecessary and over complicated packagin? All those tie-twists that are a battle to get undone, the need for various implements to but through threads attached to dollies hair, the ridiculous amount of sticky tape used.. I could go on, and in the meantime let's not forget the poor child eagerly awaiting to play with said new toy while the parents continues to hack, chop and tear their was through this seemingly almost impossible task! While i understand the need for toy manufacturers to make their toys appear attractive do they stop to think about the poor person that has to spend time fighting their was through their over-the-top packaging? I think not! I don't see why they cant jus put it a box and job done! Not to mention all this packaging is just thrown away and probably contributing to global warming and most annoying off all WE are paying for this pleasure... Not really a fair deal is it?

Oh, nothing gets me going like toy packaging! Best example of the change (for me, anyway): My Little Pony. My ponies from childhood came on a cardboard backcard with a plastic bubble. Open bubble, take out pony. Easy. Today's My Little Pony? Takes me 10 minutes to wrestle from the packaging. Deeply annoying. I think the reason manufacturers have done this is less because of attractive packaging and more to prevent easy theft. After all, if it took only 30 second to open a pony in 1986, it would be easy to open it and shove it in a coat pocket. Now you'd have to take the whole package, because if you stood there for ten minutes trying to open it, you'd get caught. You'll also notice that the cheaper brands have cheaper, easy to open packaging most of the time - it's the name brand stuff that would suffer bigger losses from theft that have gotten out of hand. I understand the need to prevent shoplifting, but seriously, do they have to make it SO complicated that it takes TOOLS to open it?

Either way, the type of packaging sometimes determines whether or not i buy a particular toy so in that case they are losing a sale anyway, its ridiculous that us parents have to pay the price for people that can't keep their hands to themselves

I completely agree! A few years ago I started opening up all my kids presents and undoing all the needless stuff before I wrapped them. It makes xmas morning and birthdays so much easier. I actually get to enjoy the occassion instead of sitting in the corner the entire time trying to open it all. I only wish my in-laws would pick up the same habit.
