Do you think ex-felons deserve another chance?

This has been a question that is always comming up in one place or an other. Why is it so hard for ex'convicts to find employment? Are the programs provided really working? Do you know anyone who has had this problem? Would you hire an ex-convict? Where do you think they should start? Is there really hope?

I do not know the reason why employers do not like to hire ex convicts. That could be one reason why some of them turn back to crime, because they are not given a chance to prove themselves. My husband's son was in prison, when he got out he got a job, but I think he lied on his application, and it was a job that did not do background checks. I believe these people should be given the chance to work like everyone else. Of course if they mess up, then there is a possibly that they would lose their jobs. Depending on the industry, I think that plays a role on who would get hired and who wouldn't. If someone was in prison for robbing a bank, I doubt very seriously if they could get a job at a bank being a teller. Murder, is rather deep, I think people tend to want to keep their distance with someone who has committed murder. I think if I owned a company, I would give an ex-convict a chance and hire him/her, as long as they were qualified for the job. Respect gains respect.

I think that if they have done their time in prison they Do deserve a second chance. Would I hire one? Most certainly. I don't know if the programs that are set up for these people work or not. I'm sure a large part of it is how much effort is the ex-con willing to put into their rehabilitation

That is hard for an employer to really decide on hiring an ex convict. Since you have been judge already and your reputation is already tainted by that conviction. I just hope that it would be good to give a chance but if your business might be jeopardize in case that ex convict would return to his old ways there is a lot of risks that an employer would take. That is why it is important that you would always keep that reputation be clean to make things work for you.

I think they should be given a second chance. they are people like everybody else and they can be better employees than even us! You know they have learned lessons the hard way and now they are more than careful not to make any mistake. If they have appropriate paper/certificates then they should get jobs and if they commit a crime again then they be denied a third chance.

witm me , it would depend on what crime he committed. if it was child abuse i think he should have been shot the day he was caught. i'd have to know an awful lot about what the person did etc. before i made up my mind about hiring him or whatever.

I think at some point that depending on the person is on whether or not that they have change. Because yes some people do change and others, well I don't know. I think for those who have truely made a change that they should have a second chance in life. I would hire someone to give them a second chance, but I would hire under the terms that they were going through counseling as well, for whatever reason that they were in jail for.

I would have to say that it might depend on the ex convict and how willing he is to put forth the energy to really redeem himself or herself. I don't believe I have ever personally known an ex felon but I do feel in certain circumstances that a second chance could be due. Sometimes these ex convicts have a way of turning their lives around. Some people have been imprisoned for years and are self taught in law and other things while they pass their time behind bars. Some even right books. There is no saying what a person can do but just to have a second chance should be fair enough. That is pretty much where I stand right now.
