This is who gave you 'falling prices' - Picture of women slaving away in sweatshop sowing piles of yellow sweatshirts

Went to Walmart and stopped through the childrens clothes items and I was a little taken back at the prices, a toddlers pant set for 6.50! A zippered long sleeve sweater for 8.00 dollars, I just do not see how they do it, man they make our economy look rather glorious with those prices, I really feel for the workers overseas slaving to bring those prices, what is your take? Another thing is that McCain has declared themselves a strong McCain supporter, revealing if not the least. Could you imagine more Walmart-like corporations popping up, what would happen to small business, they'd be non-existant, and outsourcing would crush honest entrepreneurs looking to compete, large corporations like these only encourage Greed and take away from the American community values this country started on, giving back to the people. And this takes more and more power away from the innocent people overseas looking to just make a dime to sustain their families--Walmart encourages more sweatshops and these people live with NO voice, I cringe when I see these prices.

friend, if you are living in my city, you will be crying. a pant for 5 year kids may reach 100-240 yuan, local currency in china, suppose most people earn 1500-3000 yuan per month, or equals to 30-40 dollars. while in walmart, between 20-39, soaring price.

That is so tru, here in my country, where a foreign baby clothing brand is manufactured and is priced in the US for around ten dollars, we can buy it (they say it is overrun) for about 2 dollars only. I can see the picture you are creating, and the people who work on the sweatshop has no choice because they cannot look for a better job. You know that a piece of clothing would only take some minutes to work on to? Here is my take on that. for example a piece of jeans that cost 20 dollars can be sewn in a 30 minutes let say, so a days work could produce 16 pieces of jeans, then when it is sold, it would amount to 320 dollars. right? an the sewer they pay only, 5 dollars for the whole days work. Imagine that, her whole day's work could produce 320 dollars and yet she is just paid 5 dollars. sadder is I still buy from walmart.

Yea, I see that at GAP where you have a shirt almost 20$ or something on the clearance rack for $16, whoopee, and then you look at the country its made in and you see Vietnam, Phillipines, India and its like, who are you kidding people, and even top name designers you see the same thing and that doesnt embarass them, I remember in the 80s it was something to be proud of to see "Made in the USA" on clothing, its non existant now, and what if we did stop contributing to sweatshops, yes, Its unfortunate that we fed this monster of a process but If it continues then nobody is accountable and it just allows the injustice of honest workers looking to FEED their families.

You are right in there. As American economy is getting more and more addicted to low-priced overseas good...it is exposing itself to a long-term weakness which will unravel on its very own shore. The American economy is being sucked by the great Chinese dragon. China is making a killing out of its exports to USA and is using that same money to lend America to propel its economy. What will happen once the chain is broken? The lender will always be the master to the borrower. USA mismanaged its economy, consequently it is now getting to be "slave" of the behemoth called China. I only fear for the USA. Though I am not an American.

Yea, this is something that often goes unspoken here in American, I mean you know its happening because "Made in China" is EVERYWHERE but maybe its just too overwhelming that its better to not talk about it, I dont hate China for it

I think that if you dont like walmart you shouldnt be developing film there. You shouldnt be dismissing something that you are contributing to. By shopping there you are contribiting to what you say you hate. I currently do shop at walmart, yes i know why they have low prices but without them many people overseas would not have jobs in the first place. I am a poor college student so I really dont have a choice, I do where I dont have to spend a lot of money.

I am just trying to create a bigger picture here and that is America is turning into a nation where large scale Corporation monopolizes at the expense of Americans and interfere with the policies in this nation, thats dangerous business.

I understand your concern. I do agree that places like walmart take away from small businesses. However being a college student I cant afford to shop at small businesses where they have higher prices. So i am forced to shop where there are lower prices. I think of it as a necessary evil since there are so many poor people in america. They need stores like this in order to survive.

Another local corporation I am keeping an eye on is Walgreens which is a pharmacy store like Rite Aid or CVS and I cannot believe how they have covered our small region in even just a year, they now have turned into a mini supermarket--Im ok with them as a business but it they can have two stores not even 3 miles apart from eachother, how is that benefiting the community and people who are trying to maintain small business, there has to be measures to ensure these businesses still have ground to work with.
