My lousy fight With the neighbor...

So here we are cool with the neighbors, that was a year ago when we relocated to a different apartment after renovations but the thing is they were loud and continually blasting their music in their apartment above us and outside in their SUV. I remember the first month we were there the neighbors had called the cops four times on them! Well we have always tried to be cool with our neighbors because of course, their our neighbors, we dont need drama and especially with our two kids. It used to be enough that we knocked on the door and they turned their music down, 4am in the morning as they often come home in the wee hours and then it gets quiet from I guess them sleeping til 4pm and it starts all over. We have put up with it so long that we started to get used to it. Well, just recently I chose to try to become more acquainted with the girlfriend and even took her boyfriends daughter, 9 and the girlfriends half family member, 5 out to the Bookstore, to McDonalds to the Park with my kids. I really felt for those kids because they always seemed to be stuck in the house and more alarmingly, the 9 year old showed signs of not being able to read when we went to the bookstore. Anyway, I thought all was well and it turned around when I brought the girlfriend along with us. She didn't speak to me at all except a lot of one liners and I didn't stress it and thought we just were not compatible as friends and thought to myself we could just be nice neighbors. Well, the next night comes and its 4AM in the morning and we hear them blast in and she's singing songs at the top of her lungs coming up to the apartment and then when they go in the TV starts blasting! It was like a complete 360--like what happened?? I dont know if she just decided she didn't like me and doesnt care, the kids still said hi to me later on, but she just was so disrespectful after our last talk. I waited for 2 hours but then knocked on the door because it was almost time for the sun to come up!! They didn't even come down to answer the door and finally when she did come down she laughs in my face and tells me that I didn't tell her the right way and that I needed to say it right in order for her to turn the tv dowm. I was not yelling, I said we have always been on good turns and that all we wanted was a little respect and all I got was her patronizing me. She did go up and turn it down but once again, the same thing begins the next day but NOW blasting in the daytime. I didn't even call the cops, I thought it would just pass, felt like an idiot, mostly for buying the casual friend thing. I filed a complaint with the office and thankfully she says she has no plans to renew their lease after going to court with them, I didn't even know about that. I think I am a nice neighbor and I prefer for people to like me but learned thats not always so easy. Have you ever think someone was your friend only to find out the complete opposite? Have you ran into drama with your neighbors? Did you just call the cops or try to work it out with them?
