We as a family have never been camping and i would like to take them next year, will need to buy tent etc.
My question is how can we go about being frugal with the food. Don't want lots of tin cans which will be hard to wash up at campsite etc
Any help on food that we could take that is easy to take etc??
Thanking you

I'd suggest getting lots of fresh fruit and drying it for the trip. As well as smoking and drying some meats. Trail food! It's what people used to do in the old days before all these fancy smancy modern contraptions and convenience of easily available food.
Plus, dried food is usually more flavorful and holds plenty of protein and nutrients. Easily packable too. Of course you might wanna pack a little extra water for this reason. But it's pretty decent for the frugal minded.
The other options would largely depend on for how long you'd plan on camping. Raw meat can be transported easily (depending on what time of the year you're camping) and cooked and dried the first night there.
Breads can be made over an open flame with a bit of work.
Pre-cooked foods, like hot-dogs hold up pretty decent without being cooled, so those should be good for the first one or two days in your pack and cooked easy over a campfire.
Granola, is another handy thing.
I'd also recommend googling "camping recipes" and "trail food".

Hi ya Anne18
I am actually off on a camping trip with my 3 boys tomorrow morning and it is the first time we have ever been together. I have packed some tins of soup and a jar of pasta sauce and pasta purely for convenience. It doesn't bother me to bring the cans back to re-cycle. I suppose you could take some packet soup. Apart from that I am taking, bread, cheese, potatoes, sausages and baked beans. I will let you know how I get on! I would just be happy if the sun is shining as the weather hasn't been to kind lately!
