Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival? The 73rd annual festival to be held Labor Day Weekend, August 28 - September 1, 2008, in picturesque downtown Morgan City, Louisiana. This is an event that will prove that oil and water really do mix. Deep in the heart of Cajun Country, every Labor Day Weekend, tens of thousands of people celebrate at Louisiana's oldest chartered harvest festival. The festival has been honoring those who have worked tirelessly through rain and shine...and sometimes even hurricanes, to provide the area's economic lifeblood for over half a century. The festival also emphasizes the unique way in which these two seemingly different industries work hand-in-hand culturally and environmentally in this area of the "Cajun Coast." The event is free and has grown to become one of the country's premiere festivals. There's plenty of fun for "kids" of all ages and lots to see, hear, do and eat! The festival is truly a feast for ALL senses and according to Time Magazine, "...one of the best, most unusual, the most down-home, the most moving and the most fun the Country has to offer..." When I first saw the name of the festival, I was scratching my head. But it all makes sense now. I hope the hurricane doesn't mess with this festival.

Hello kimbers867. Wow, this Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival sounds like lots of fun. No, I've never been there but I would love to go! It sounds like an incredibly charming sort of festival with lots of different things to do. I, too, hope that LA doesn't get any big storms this year.

I just checked and it is 90 miles SW of New Orleans so I bet they got evacuated. There is nothing on their website.

Oh, that's too bad. Hate to hear it. I just wish those nasty ole storms would dissipate out there in the gulf before causing any destruction.
