Okay...I just recently finished Dean Koontz's book, Watchers. It was absolutly amazing! I recommend it to anyone!!! Very lovable characters; this book made me laugh and cry (well tear up :P)...it's just all around wonderful, no complaints about it.
Now, when I finish a book I really like I have a habit of going and seeing if there was ever or ever will be a movie made from it. And I did just that with Watchers. There are actually 4 or 5 different movies made based on the book! I was happy...until i read the synopsis of the first movie...
The first line of the synopsis DRASTCICALLY changes the storyline...in the book our main character is 36 years old....the movie says it is "a boy." Just the fact that a kid finds the dog changes SO much...it takes out at least 3 or 4 characters that I absolutly loved (obviosuly the main man, his love interest, her stalker, her lawyer). And there is so much from the book they won't be able to do with a kid (some feats the main character accomplishes, his marriage to his love interest, their child, etc etc.)
I just don't understand why people would want to ruin such a great story by changing so much. I haven't even seen the movie and I know it'll be a disapointment. I do still plan on watching it if I ever get my hands on it, just to say I did...but still...if you're going to make a movie from a book--then you should keep the same story! Right?

I read Watchers years ago and the first chapter scared the you-know-what out of me. It's by far the best book Koontz has done, that I have read. I was extremely disappointed by the first movie. Not only was it nothing like the book but it really wasn't a very good movie either.

Yeah there were defeniatly some suspenseful parts in the book! And didn't you just LOVE Einstein?? I laughed when he talked about Einstein reading and stuff, just the cutest image! It made me want to run out and get a retriever right at that moment! lol
I figured the movie isn't anything like the book, and I defeniatly am not surprised that the movie isn't good lol. Did you happen to see Watchers Reborn? I just watched a few minutes of some clips put together and it seems to be a little more like the book (from what I saw) but still not 100%

Yeah :/ It didn't seem exactly like it...but prob. a lot more than the first one. I would love if someone just read the book...and tried copying it scene from scene into a movie---with good acting and good effects...that would make me the happiest person ever! lol. And....Gerard Butler should be Travis! :P

I hate it when a movie is a really bad interpretation of a great book. Dean Koontz is one of my very favorite authors. I remember reading that book and thought it was really good. I think Koontz is a lot like Stephen King in some ways. In their novels you always get to know the main characters very well, know what they are thinking, etc. You just can't convey that convincingly on a movie screen. By the way, have you read the Odd Thomas series by Koontz? If not, run to the library right now!

I love Dean Koontz too! I think he is brilliant. D.K and Stephen King are a couple of my faves too. I'm actually surprised someone else read Watchers! Usually when I mention a book on here no one else has heard of it :P
I read one of the Odd books....maybe Forever Odd...the one where he has a dog, and there are like...generically engineered monkeys or something. And it turns out the sheriff guy is "their leader." The cover has the guy in sunglasses, really white...lol. Not sure...:P But whatever one I read was really good! :)
