The Moon Festival is coming and here the moon cakes are available from the stores. It's the main important food in this festival.
I think nobody will try to make it at home. But few days ago I suddenly had such an idea. Fortunately there is the internet store so that I can buy the moon cake mould and the ingredients. Perhaps tomorrow I will try to make it at home to see how it goes. I am sure this is something extraordinary for people to make at home. Actually my friends are eager to see the result and I know they want to laugh at me but perhaps they will be disappointed at last because they should know I am talented in cooking

Hi Youless. What IS a mooncake? I went to a website for a bakery in Los Angeles that sells them and there is a picture there, but they assume that people already know what they are. They don't explain them. And, it's confusing because they seem to be something that can be either sweet or savory (like green bean mooncakes and red bean mooncakes don't sound sweet to me). Do you have a recipe? And, what do they represent? What is the Moon Festival?

The Moon Festival is one of the important festivals in China. And moon cake is an important food for it. Usually it's sweet. Let me try to find how to make it via the net for you: http://chinesefood.about.com/od/foodfestivals/r/mooncakes.htm

Thank you, Youless. So, is the Moon Festival like a Harvest Festival - when the growing season is coming to an end? And, thank you for the link. I will check it out more closely later. It does look like it needs a mold to make the design on the top. Thank you again.

According to Chinese traditions, on this day family members and friends gather to visit scenic spots, gaze at the moon, and eat mooncakes and pomeloes together.
It is one of the two most important holidays in the Chinese calendar and is a legal holiday in several countries.
