Ladies, What happened when you stopped taking Birth Control?

Back in February, almost seven months ago, I went off the pill as I had been on it for over four and a half years (My son turned five at the end of June) and did not want to be putting that into my body anymore.... Anyhow, I spent March, April and into May really detached and in somewhat of a depression...so unlike me and then I dealt with cycles that were anywhere from two to seven weeks apart until they evened out around the beginning of the summer (Finally) So, what is your experience? Is this all normal? I'm back to my own self now though so no need to worry! I've just been trying to decide how to post this and when...Felt now was the time! So, share all of your experiences with me! Thanks in advance! ~Heavens~
