My 19 month olds new word for the week is HAPPY. Last week it was CUTE. In between she has learned RED, GREEN, PINK, BLUE, and WHITE. She will count with me 1 through 10. Earlier today in the car she saw some cows in the pasture and said WHOA, COOL. I know this is the age where they learn all sorts of new words, but she is learning them at an astonishing rate. My son did not talk much until he was 3, so this is a little strange for me. Did you have an early talker or a late talker? I had one of each.

I know I personally was talking and walking way before average. My brother walked around the same age as me, but he didn't start talking properly until he was just over 2. So I guess it doesn't run in the family. I think talking happens earlier the more you talk to the child, and maybe it's easier for the second child, as they have a sibling to talk to them as well.

I raised one boy and three girls and I think the girls talked earlier than my son did. I seem to recall reading that little girls are more verbal than little boys. My youngest grandson is 2 and he's been putting words together to form small sentences for a little while now which are so cute to hear since real talking is relatively new for him. Unfortunately, he was quick to learn how to boss me around....Nan, come here...Come on, Nan...get it, Nan.
