theres a technical fault in McCain attempt a president rather one you will never hear, we all know you have to be an American Citizen born on american soil in order to run for president. look up McCain bio and youll learn he was born at panama canal, when the us had controll of it.before mccain votes start hounding me, realize that this rule was established by our countrys founders. and if elected it would technically mean that the constitution was completely ignored. They need to review and amend this rule.before it gets abused.

According to The Heritage Guide to the Constitution, Congress, in its first naturalization statute, 1 Stat. 104(1790), declared that any children born to citizens of the United States, either beyond the sea or beyond the limits of the U.S. shall be considered as natural born citizens. I think if the place of McCain's birth was truly and legally an issue, you would be hearing about it all over the news and his opponents would be all over it without ceasing. It looks like Congress put that issue to rest a long time ago.

panama canal is an actual, canal the u.s and french helped build, McCain was born on a military base, (in panama). Panama canal was never a u.s territory.

ahhh, was it a U.S. military base? because i think that would be considered U.S. soil. doesn't matter cuz i don't like McCain but i thought it was an interesting discussion. and if it wasn't a U.S. military base then you might have a valid point.

just looked this up in the Yahoo Encyclopedia: Panama Canal Zone former territory within Panama, 553 sq mi (1,432 sq km), that was administered by the United States under a 1903 treaty (with later amendments) with Panama. The zone included the Panama Canal and an area extending 5 mi (8.1 km) on each side. Under the terms of a later treaty (1977), the zone was abolished in Oct., 1979, and returned to Panamanian rule; the canal itself was ceded to Panama in 1999. looks to me like the land around the canal was part of a U.S. territory.......i could be wrong, but that's how it looks to me.

You don't have to be born in American technically. You have to born on American soil. If a child is born on a military base of any sort..doesn't matter what country they are in..they are still american.

so even if the child has non-american parents(example), if they are born in a u.s military base in lets say mexico., they are not mexican citizens but actually american? you may be right i just wonder when the u.s rents foreign land is it american soil for the time being?

I thought there had been rumored issues of where Obama was born but this is interesting never heard about Mccain, but as long as his parents were American I don't think it would matter. Also reading some of the comments you mentioned something about him being born on a military base there then that is technically considered American soil so long as we have complete control over it especially for these purposes. You can't give a person less opportunities in life because there parents were shipped to a base off the continental 50. Not really too sure I like him for president anyway don't know yet, but interesting conversation, you learn something new everyday I guess.

I heard rumor that Obama isn't even an american citizen. He definitely is a citizen of some other country he was in a lot younger, but there is some legal battle pending for him to show proof of US citizenship. I read it on some news site so, but who knows it all could be BS.

I am sure that neither candidate could have gotten this far without proof of there citizenship. I don't think that the either party would risk the judgment that that would bring for years to come. Just my opinion though who knows nowadays, its not ab out fair or just anymore, just winning.
