I personally think so. I have a lot of discussions starting with "do you" and most of them are successful discussions in terms of responses received. I think when discussions are started with "do you", it is easily recognizable and it engages the readers to respond. What do you think? Have you started discussions with "do you"? Do you think they draw a lot of responses?

I don't know . Maybe that depends on the actual question after the "do you..."

It would always depend on the actual question. But starting a discussion with "do you" involves your reader to the discussion and gives him an idea of what he is going to respond with in his mind. Have a nice day!

Although, discussions starting with "do you" do tend to make some a little curious and draws attention, i think that actual content is what the readers will read and respond to.

You are right about that. The content is really the one that makes the readers read and respond to a discussion. But I am thinking the way the question is asked and how the discussion is carried also affects the success of a discussion. Have a nice day!

I think you are right, but essentially you have to ask a question. I hate discussions that don't. How are you supposed to respond?

Discussions with no question are really hard to respond to. And if you are an earnings-oriented myLot member like me, you would also hate discussions which looks inviting but you cannot respond to it because there is not question asked. And you have to try harder to come up with a response. Have a nice day!

I think it does, but I usually do not because I want people to think and I do not want to make it too easy. If I can start a Do You which is not easy and does not insult the reader's intelligence, then I could do more of that. I am not making as much money as I hoped this last month, I do not want to neglect the other things, so maybe if I start more discussions, I will get more people to respond.

Maybe you are not as earnings-oriented as I am here. But I think what I am doing has also a purpose. Most of the earnings-oriented people here looks for discussions which are easy to respond to and what I do is give them the discussions they are looking for. I don't think I am insulting their intelligence, but tell me if I am insulting yours. But it's always good to have a member like you who always wants to have a more intelligent conversation. Have a nice day!

Hi there richiem! I think that generally, discussions starting with "do you" get a lot of responses. Well, of course, not all discussions starting with "do you" gets much attention. I think that one reason why people tend to gear towards such discussions is because of the fact that it is answerable by YES, NO, or IT DEPENDS. Then those who respond just have to elaborate a little and that's it.

That is definitely it! Discussions that starts with "do you" are easier to answer and there are room for other words that we need to fill in to make our answer longer. There is no right or wrong answer really and there are no restrictions as to what should the answers be. It gives more freedom to the respondents. Have a nice day!

Hi richiem. I'd have to go back and look at all my discussions to see how I started them. But now, I am curious about that because some of my discussions really don't do all that well and I thought it was because of the subject I was selecting. I think you are making an important point here--when we (myLotters)see an "easy" question we can immediately related to, we figure, "Hey, I can just answer this one real quick," and so, we do. Thanks for this discussion topic.

Aside from starting universal discussions, I now always try to ask a question in the title, and as much as possible, start it with a "do you". It works for me. I love discussions where I can easily respond to and I know other myLotters would love it to. It's like there's no sweat in answering these type of discussions. Have a nice day!

Hi richiem I think in away it does. When we start with 'Do you.." people can get to the content and thoughts of the discussion right away. Many times users do not read through the whole discussion and things get easier for such users. They read the heading and get to write straightway. Even I have noticed this. My discussions with "Do you...' have more than usual number of responses. So that explains it all. smiles..

I think for a discussion to be more successful, the title should be clear enough that the readers get what the discussion is all about and they would already have a response in mind. I think it is better that way. Have a nice day!

Yep, seems like do you and have you ever are the way a lot of discussions start. What few I have started I have began with one of those two phrases.

"Have you ever" is also a response-drawer! But I don't think I have started discussions with it. I prefer "do you" than "have you ever" because "have you ever" ask questions about peculiar experiences and the responses can be fewer than if asked with "do you". But as I have said, I have never started a discussion with "have you ever" so I am not perfectly sure. Have a nice day!

Dear friend, The most no of responds and least responds I got starts with do you and I hope those responds might be much easy to answer or put up the view just as questions with answering Yes or No. May be just like True or False. Those responds has to just give view in any one of the options like Yes or No or True or False may like these.

Mine, too. I get a lot of responses for discussions starting with "do you". I guess it is easier to respond to than discussions with other titles. And I think it is more of straight to the point. Have a nice day!

Yes, I do think that discussions starting with "Do You" attract loads of responses. Even this discussion starts with "Do You" and it's the third response. I think it is because this allows the responder to involve himself in the discussion. Here's an example... Discussion 1 Drinking Coffee while myLotting helps a lot 6 Responses Discussion 2 Do You drink coffee while myLotting? 19 Responses It is because they have to answer a question rather than commenting on a composition. It makes the responder blend into the discussion to dig the answer from himself, rather than to just applaud for a nice piece of work.

Nice comparison. I would have respond to the Discussion 2 instead of the Discussion 1. The Discussion 2 is making me more involved in the discussion and I can share my own experience without thinking very hard. Have a nice day!

It is possible, for me when I see a title that is asking a question of me then I tend to be more drawn to that discussion than perhaps another that is just stating something.

Questions gets the readers' attention then it involves the reader into the discussion because it is about him and not about the discussion starter. I think people don't usually respond for example if I would say what phobias are but when I ask them what their phobias are at the start of the discussion, they respond more. Have a nice day!

Yes, as long as the question also requires a reason in the response. If you ask "Do you like..." or "Do you prefer...", the answer is often just yes I do, or no I prefer something else. "Do you think...." is probably a better question, as it invites better quality responses which include personal thoughts, ideas and opinions. I think you make a good point about starting a discussion with a question in the heading. It is not a requirement, but it will probably get a bigger number of responses.

Nice idea. It might be true that "do you think..." questions would make the readers think more and offer a longer response. But I think it would make them spend a longer time and thus earn lesser. I am always on the earn-more side. I make it a point to make my titles as questions as much as possible, but not always. Have a nice day!

Really working. You should try it too. Here's how it works: It gets the readers' attention because it is a question, then it involves the reader into the discussion because it is about him and not about the discussion starter. Try it and let us know if it is working for you too. Have a nice day!

This discussions is an example of the ones starting with "do you". And as of now, it has more than 30 responses, which is more than my averages responses received with is 15-20. And it always helps when the topic is universal, I mean anyone can respond to your discussion. I will really bring in more responses. Have a nice day!

It certainly does even though I think I have only a few discussions starting with those two encouraging words. It quickly catches attention for being direct with the title itself so supplements would only be provided on the content of the initial post yet, even with the title alone, the respondent can pretty much speculate on what he or she may share on the discussion. After 'Do you' and the actual topic being asked, the possible replies that the discussion may receive would be yes or no, agree or disagree, whatever the discussion would be leaning to. Some would elaborate on their answers while other would provide their answer and share their opinion.

Depends if every participant in a discussion would share their thoughts thoroughly or just leave their general input without elaboration which would be much more preferable and could ignite a variety of discussion. Have a nice day as well. (^_^ )

Most of the time, people do elaborate so that they can make a longer post. People nowadays are trying to make longer posts because they have noticed short posts don't pay or pay little.

Yup, i personally think so, as it allows the readers to express their own views at ease, without having to worry if their views will crash against yours and earning a negative rating instead ^_^ It's human nature to respond or express freely when we are given the chance to, and knowing that it's safe to do so ^_^ As compared to others, most ple whom discuss about their life, will only get responds concerning their life only, without much advices or so.. Y? Because those whom respond dun really dare to share when they are not prompted to ^_^

I also think that involving the readers to the discussion makes them respond more. It makes them easy to share their own. And there are no wrong answers. I have always advised other members to start general discussions where anyone can respond to. Have a nice day!

hi richiem yes I think that starting with do you makes the discussion more personal and draws in a lot of readers and gets more responses if the do you has some interesting content. I think I have used that a time or to, also are you blah blah draws people in as it to is] more personal. we respond to things that are in our realm of experience for one thing and personalizing a discussion makes it more interesting.

You got it right and complete, Hatley! We can only tell what is about us, so when the discussions is asking for things about us, we can easily answer. I don't think if all my content are interesting but I always try to come up with a unique topic which I think haven't been discussed before. Have a nice day!

Well; I do not think so m. I have started many discussions with "DO you" . Yet they did not get too many responses. Some in fact got just 1 or 2 responses. I have seen that sometimes not so great discussions get good number of responses. Why ? - Because they are apparently not so "Interesting" sounding to users.

For me, those that generate a lot of responses are those topics which are easy to answer. Of course, there are other factors like you should increase your number of friends to increase your exposure. The more exposure your discussions will get, the more responses it will attract. If your discussions is easy to answer, and it is widely exposed, it would surely attract a lot of responses. "Do you" is just part of the equation. It is an invitation to the readers, not the whole menu. Have a nice day!

I as a respondent search for questions which I can answer easily and where I can offer a 4 or more line of response. Making discussions that is easy to respond to really helps the starter and the readers. It has always been my goal to start discussions which are easy to respond to. In that way, I am helping the readers as well as helping myself. Have a nice day!
