Can You Pick And Choose What You Believe and Don't believe from The Bible?

I have seen this so many times.... Can a Christian just pick and choose what they want to believe out of the Word of God and forget those things that they don't want to believe? For example, can a Christian believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit but believe in no evil? Believe in no Satan or demons? Even though Jesus was tempted by Satan and drove out evil spirits from people. I understand that there are some issues that are debatable by how they are interrupted.

I believe most of the Bible at least is fact but I also believe that man has made some mistakes in the translation and printing of the Bible. Publishers that produce the Bible make mistakes in it. A good example is the 10th chapter of Acts verse 13 where it says "Rise, Peter; kill and eat". In the King James version, red letter, this verse is supposed to be in red letter indicating the words of Jesus. You can compare different publishers Bibles that are red letter and in some it will be red letter and in some others it will not be. Those of you that use the red letter addition of the King James bible look at this verse and see if it is red or black. I don't read my Bibly like most people do. I read it a lot but I read it to remember what I read and where I read it. Then I depend on God to take me to my Bible and explain what it means. There is no doubt in my mind I am not and never will be smart enough to figure the Bible out on my own. I do not believe you can pick and choose what you believe from the Bible. In my opinion anyone that does this are setting themselves up for a hard fall.

I came across something while studying on a certain topic. This man who started off being an atheist college professor took a break and traveled the world to find proof that there wasn't a God so that he could write a book and finally stop his students from debating him. What he found changed his life and his thinking. Its got a lot of facts about the Bible and the process of which the Bible was written.....and answers whether or not the Bible is "completely" correct. Take a look. Let me know if the link doesn't show up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Seke-QHCXVU&feature=related

I'm not saying that I don't believe the Bible wasn't Gods work when it was written because I believe it was. What I am saying is it has been messed with by man so much since then there is no way it could still be word for word the way God commanded it be written. I do believe if we really desire God's real truth and depend on Him for it He will point out any mistakes man has made in it that will effect our personal relationship with Him and Jesus. We should simply allow God to verify what we are reading. He is more than willing to do it. "Lean not on our own understanding".

I made a statenment a while back that I didn't believe Satan was our problem at this point in time. I should have said The evil we see now I don't believe is bring produced by Satan. The evil minds of people is our biggest problem. The problems we face in our every day life are being produced by people making incorrect decisions. We also produce a lot of our personal problems the same way. I honestly elieve if people were actually being controlled by Satan and His crew things would be a lot worse than they are.

I actually asked this question because of an interesting yet scary set of statistics shared by the pastor of my church. I can't remember the statistic but it was like 40% didn't believe in Hell or in Satan. But then there were good statistics like the divorce rate is much lower in a Cristian household.....anyway. Yes your statement......"As for Satan I believe the only Satan that exists is within the evil spirit we build over the years. I believe a young child is proof of this. Any evil spirit they have when the get older is developed over time as they grow up. The world they are exposed to as they grow determines the strength of the evil spirit they have when they are older." "Also it is a proven fact if you confine a child and feed them only certain information you can totally control what the child becomes." In your previous statement, I don't see where it says that you believe in Satan or at least the Satan that Christians believe in. Actually it seems to me,that you give alot of credit to science and leave very little room for God to work. When we accept Jesus and his spirit comes and dwells within our hearts is he dwelling in a body where there are also evil spirits? Are they battling inside? Is it like the angel on one shoulder and the devil on another? Is Satan and his demons...you know the ones mentioned in the Bible...are they on vacation? Because I don't think that they know this. Where does it say in the Word of God that Satan is NOT a threat? John 10:10, The theif comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Most Christians will swear by the bible but don't believe everything in it. When faced with thing they don't believe in they usually say God works in a mysterious way and certain things are best left alone.

The bible defines faith as being sure of what we do not see and being certain of what we hoped for. If we just pick what we want to believe, then I guess it's no longer faith. It's my belief that the bible is the word of God, and anyone who says that he has faith in God, must believe in the bible. otherwise, he really doesn't have faith at all.

Inspite of the alleged scrutiny and criticism of the Bible, it is not an excuse for a real Christian to disregard it. The Bible is the sole authority and standard of a true believer in Christ, sadly many of the believers today failed to search and study the Word of God deeper and failed to defend its truth to those who seek for its truth. As for your question, " can you pick and choose you believe and don't believe the Bible" anybody can do that, a monkey can believe whatever he thinks of his world is, everybody can respect him on that because he is entitled to his own opinion. BUT whatever you think and believe in might not necessarily be true in general, hence, a Christian source of truth is no other than the Bible itself. Truth be told that the Bible is not a personal opinion but God's Holy Spirit poured unto worthy men of God. Right in my heart, it is the truth and nothing else is the source of truth when we talk about God. Happy mylotting !

Of course, you can choose, many christians and churches do that but you are not supposed to do that. As christian, we should believe all the verses in the Bible. They are all connected each others but not contradictive to each other. Regarding some verses which are still debatable, it's normal as human being. We are not perfect so in many times we have differences in understanding and interpreting verses in the Bible. If we want to admit that we're not perfect and always ask GOD to complete us day by day, I believe GOD will bless us each day with higher understanding upon His words.

Do you think it's because some has a hard time totally believeing on the Word of God and cutting themselves off from what the world believes. Example, what science says compared to our beliefs? Is it a lack of faith?

Yes, I agree with you. Human has a hard time believing because naturally, we are living in sin. Like a verse said we want to do right but it turns out that we do the wrong thing. Human tend to choose what we like to do, what we like to hear, and what we like to believe. It also apply with bible verses, we tend to interprete them in accordance to what we think and what we like. If we don't like the complete verse then we just cut it in part and took our favourite part; and if we don't like the whole verse then we simply ignore it.
