Do you buy Souvenirs When You Visit a Foreign Country?

Souvenir - Statue of Liberty

I was fortunate to be able to visit 4 Asian countries and the USA. During each visit that I have, I made a point to buy a souvenir. Something to remember the places I have been. I buy something that when seen can associate the object with the country such as a Merlion Bell for Singapore, an elephant T-Shirt from Thailand and a miniature Statue of Liberty from the USA. How about you, do you buy and collect souvenirs?

Well I have not been out of the country for a long while now, when I go on holiday we stay in our country but yes I always buy a little something to remind me of that time. I just could not come home without some little trinket no matter how tacky it is!

I don't really like buying souvenirs. I think it's a waste of money to buy another key chain, cap, or shirt just to be reminded of one's travels. A photograph will suffice for me. Moreover, I'd rather spend my money on food and shopping! Those are my top two priorities when it comes to traveling. I don't even mind if the place I'm staying at isn't 5 star or if the airline doesn't have great service as long as I can buy unique items and eat new kinds of food. :)

Yup, I try to, so that I have something to remember the countries I visited, besides the photographs. I would often hunt for souveneirs that are unique to the particular country, that I can't get elsewhere! And besides these, I would (if I have enough space in my luggage) buy souveneirs for family and close friends back home.

Yes, we try to buy something when we visit a new country but we are now getting so much that we have taken to doing two things. Started a collection of thimbles (my wife of course) and they are small and cheap. The other is, if we need or want something back home, we will sometimes wait until we go to a foreign country and buy it there. Then the sweater or shoes come from Italy or Norway. I like that plan as we get what is needed and we solve the need to "buy something."

Seeing as how I don't travel too often, I would always buy a souvenir when I visit a foreign country. I usually buy ornaments or some household item, something that will last and remind me of the good time I had on my holiday. Now that I have more spare time, I intend to travel a lot more and so increase my collection of souvenirs.

I dun normally buy souvenirs when i'm out for holidays to other countries.. What i will normally buy are their local products only ^_^ Because most of the things there can be found in our own country too, and the only difference is the price.. lol =D Thus, since i'm able to find it in my country, so y will i spend the money to buy from there to keep?? hehe

I don't get the chance to travel very much but my husband travels a lot and always brings me back a t-shirt from the countries he visits for his work. I now have many! India, New York, Washington DC, Turkey, London, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam (I got to go to Vietnam myself actually!) and Australia. Over time I hope to be able to add many more.....

I usually buy something like a postcard to put in my album when I get back. I've just been to Niagara Falls so I bought a little cuddly moose to put on my desk at work. To be honest I usually end up buying other people souvenirs rather than stuff for myself.

You are really attractive and popular! You gain a lot more happiness buying things for other people than buying only for yourself.

whenever me and my husband travel (either together or separately), we always make sure we buy a souvenir. We collect/buy ref magnets from the places we've been to. I've got ref magnets from Houston TX (NASA ref magnet), Las Vegas, Korea, Singapore, India, California USA, and from our country Philippines -- Boracay, Bohol, Enchanted Kingdom -Laguna, Baguio

yes definitely, i want to have something to bring back and remind me that i've been there, done this and that hahaha, and also as a gift to my future kids to motivate them to study and work hard so they can go places, experience new things, learn new cultures, etc.

Hello Muelitz, Yes, I do buy souvenir in places I visit. I usually buy those magnets that you put on the fridge to hold thing up. If there is no such thing available, I'll buy other stuff as much as possible. Most of my travel are company sponsored and so there are only few countries I visited so far. I was lucky enough to visit the US particularly Texas. I hope I can continue to travel and visit other countries again specially Asian countries which is just around the neighborhood. Regards.

Yes I buy keychains when I visit a foreign country. The last time when I went to Perth Australia about 10 years ago, I think I bought about 20 keychains. But now I think I would get tea towels and also keychains and some postcards. Oh and maybe some t shirts too.
