Ketsup on STEAK ??!!

Okay - we had steaks for dinner tonight and I was suddenly reminded of a childhood event... My brother and I RARELY had steak as children - in my family steak was an adult meal and hamburgers were the kid meal...At some point, I was about 9 or so, my Grandfather decided to rectify that. He did steaks on the grill - for EVERYONE ! Kids included - my brother and I were sooo excited...... Right up until we made that ever so fatal child like error - we put ketsup on it ! My Grandfather just about had a hernia - he lost it - I loved my Grandfather - but he scared the crap out of me on that one... I didn't look at another steak for years, much less reach for the ketsup for anything other than a hot dog... But I digress here - the real question is - has or does anyone out there use ketsup on steaks ? Seems a perfectly normal kid thing to me !

Personally, I find it hard to eat a cheese burger and/or a hamburger without Ketchup. It's easy to eat steak without ketchup, not for my cousin though. I have a cousin who LOVES ketchup, he will eat even potato chips with ketchup. He eats the craziest things with ketchup. We even tried a ketchup intervention by hiding all the ketchup in the house, but he manages to find where we hide it. Anyways, we are still working on his problem. Steak is pretty good with ketchup and steak sauce, but I prefer steak sauce.

A ketsup intervention - hmmmm - you're poor cousin ! I'm kidding of course - but with the chips ? The guy certainly loves his ketsup ! Yeah - I (now)also prefer my steaks with a good steak sauce - or straight up as the saying goes - Good luck with your cousins "problem" !

I've known plenty of adults who use catsup/ketchup on steaks too. There is not that much difference between ketchup and steak sauce, actually. Except the price. And that it's more "adult" to put steak sauce on than ketchup. I have a niece - grown now - who has always put ketchup on everygthing. Well, except cereal. Her sister has always put ranch dressing on everything. (Even steaks.) I think that how we season or use condements is a personal choice. BTW, it's interesting that back when I was a kid, kids ate chicken while adults had steak. I don't think I had my first taste of steak until I was about 12.

Oh I'll admit that on rare occassion I do still use the Ketsup on a steak - although I'm pretty sure Grandpa scared me away from making it a habit ! Although I definitly agree that the choice of condiments is a personal one... Isn't it interesting that the concept of kids food vs. adult food is NOT uncommon ?! I never gave it a second thought as a child - now tho - it seems - odd !
