Wow, I thought I was the only person that ice cream did that to! All my friends can eat it no problem, they just look at me funny when I tell them I need medicine to eat that. I also felt like an odd-ball for being the only person I know that has had acid reflux since childhood. I used to call it the burning burps because they hurt and burned my throat, and no one understood it but me. As for now, I need to lose tons of weight, and I had to give up regular coffee and certain foods. You never realize how much you liked polish sausage until it's a permanent no-no. There are days when I just don't eat because I'm afraid of what will happen. Today I had fish and fresh tomatoes and the tomatoes did me in. No one else in my family has this problem, so it's kind of nice when there are others who know where I'm coming from.

Hi there You sound like you are suffering quite badly. A year or 2 back my hubby stopped smoking and consequently put on quite a bit of weight. AT the same time he started suffering from what we later found out was irritable bowel syndrome. Bloated stomach, stomach ache, acid reflux, indigestion, mucus in his stool, etc... it got quite bad before we found out what it was. They thought he might even have an ulcer at one stage and wanted to start sticking cameras down his throat, etc... luverly!!!Oh well, eventually the consultant (before) sticking the camera down the ol' gizzard, commented that he thought it looked like hubby dear had an irritable bowel - we left the dr's rooms and never went back! After that he started drinking probiotic yogourts - just 1 each morning - and slowly he got better. Apparently they reline your stomach/bowel and all the good bacteria grow back thereby helping to sort out all the problems. I'm not sure whether this solution will cure your problem, but it may help?? Good luck. Violetdreams

I suffered from Acid reflux and stomach ulcer during my school years and thank God I'm cured of the problem by following some very simple things in life. 1. Always have your meal on time, Especially your break fast, do not feel hungry to have your food. 2. Have light food in the night 3.Sleep on your left side rather than sleeping on your back or belly. You'll definitely find a lot of relief. Try raising your cot on the head side by 2 or 3 inches from the ground. Drink plenty of water. Try these steps and let me know if there is any change or no change at all.

I also have Gerd and it is terrible. I am currently taking Prevacid by prescription. I still have problems off and on because I hate missing out on yummy food but I use over the counter Gaviscon when I get heart burn and it takes the pain completely away. I have it pretty bad. I am at the point to where the pain feels like I am having a heart attack and I can not breathe, so I sleep with the Gavascon right next to my bed. If I wake up in that much pain I just take the gavascon and seconds later I am able to fall back to sleep.

God that sounds awful! My hubby used to sleep with a bottle of Tums next to him all the time. His problem, it turned out was Irritable Bowel and after loads of tests, etc.. he resorted to drinking Probiotic Yogurts and within a couple of months his irritable bowel had sorted itself out and he can now eat anything he wants too. He does, however find that, if he eats too much fatty food (for eg) then it starts to play up again and he just has a few more probiotic drinks and sorts it all out again. Not sure if this will help you too, but guess it wouldn't hurt? Violetdreams
