Do you use shampoo daily?

I have started using shampoo daily from the age of 15 because of dandruff problem. I use a brand named 'Head & Shoulders'. It has drastically reduced the hair-fall due to dandruff problem and I have become a loyal customer of the brand. Do you too use shampoo daily. If yes, which one and is there any specific reason you use it for?

I usually only shampoo my hair every 2 to 3 days, unless it needs it more often. I know that sounds kind of gross, but its actually better for you hair. Most salons will tell you to wash it only every few days, because it keeps your hair healthier. As for my preferred shampoo, I usually use Matrix.

Hi Jade, I agree with you. I have also heard the same thing someplace, but the problem with me is that I tend to lose hair if I don't shampoo even for one day. Also, I feel very greasy if I don't shampoo my hair. It's kinda become a routine for me but seriously I have inferred this point by actually experimenting with myself. So, I have decided to use it daily without fail lest I actually go bald. It would be a living nightmare.

Hi brisk, same with me too. Can't imagine having a bath without shampooing my hair. Infact I shampoo my hair even if I bathe twice a day. It's become an inseparable part of my bath more so because of problems of hair-fall and dandruff. I have to use it daily otherwise the problem re-occur.

I use shampoo daily since theres no point of taking a shower without a shampoo lol. I dont feel comfortable taking a shower and still feeling that sticky feeling on my hair. I usually have a shampoo and conditioner. Those are one of the things i cannot live without.

The difference between guys and gals is that they dun shampoo their hair everyday, and thus they can save quite a bit on buying new bottles every alternate weeks or every month ^_^ hehe

Hi Kun, you and I seem to be on the same lines atleast on that front. It has kinda become a habit with me too to shampoo everytime I have a bath. Yeah, the amount of shampoo for guys is very much less as compared to that for gals. I wonder how gals maintain their monthly budget with shampoo being such a costly affair.

Yeah, even I have an oily complexion and the oil seems to make my hair very greasy. So, I too use it for my every bath and also for the dandruff and hair-fall problems.

BUt i thought gals should not shampoo their hair everyday because it will spoil their hair instead of making them better ^_^ hehe =D OR izit just that gals with long hair takes longer time to dry and thus that's the main reason y they dun shampoo their hair everyday?? lol

Yeah, everybody has his/her own choice and kinda have become loyal customers to the brand. I guess very less people would be the adventurous type and keep changing their shampoo from time to time. Having said that I have heard somewhere that the pH level in the shampoo affects our scalp and so we must keep changing the shampoo for changing the pH level our scalp encounters everyday. I don't know if this theory is true but I don't think that I'll be able to change my shampoo. What about u?

yes I do know your problems and I think we share that problem which regards to dandruff (seborrhaic dermatitis) its due to over production of sebum in our head and basically it has no known origin and its hormonal especially in our teen years... As I've learn I want to share my experiences and yes I used that shampoo before and its good at first but it didn't work for me, I'm using Vaseline (violet for anti-dandruff) and it work for me and you must search for the brand that suites for you and if your bothered that your brand causes hair fall, I might suggest before applying the shampoo dilute it first with water while in your hand before applying into your head and second use shampoo alternately with a conditioner.. Drink more fluids daily Learn if what causes the breakouts of dandruff (like eating meats, chicken etc.) and minimize or if you can avoid it... A visit to a salon and having a hot oil can help too... Hope that helps cause it helps me too

Thanks for the info alecz. I have heard that oily foodstuff is responsible for dandruff but I can't help it, I just love oily food. I do drink lots of fluids during daytime. But, I am not too sure about hot oil treatment, won't it cause further damage to the scalp?

I take a bath everyday, but I donĀ“t use shampoo each time I take a bath. I think that once a week shampoo is enough, at least with my kind of hair and the climate here in my country. In summer I must have some additional shampoos along the week.

Yeah, I agree shampooing once a week or once every 3 days is okay but for me it is mandatory to use it everyday for my dandruff and hair-fall problems.

No, I shampoo about 3 times a week because doing it everyday dries out your hair and scalp. You need to let the oil develop in your scalp.

hi! You're right, but my being an oily skin it is the cause of problems like dandruff and hair-loss. So, I don't have a choice but to use it daily. If I stop even for one day the problem worsens.

I feel it is necessary to use shampoo daily for preventing dandruff and hair-loss. I have observed that if I stop using shampoo even for a day, my hair starts falling. That a good choice you've got but is it that effective for hairfall.

Hi rajesh! With me, when it comes to hair I am a freak taking good care of it no matter how much i spent. About using shampoo, yeah I usually use shampoo every day same with conditioner as well. Now that I am here in the US i am having problem with my hair coz it was not like what it used to be when I was still in PI. I don't stick to just one brand of shampoo coz its not advisable. They said, even it makes your hair looks great or like what you said reduced the hair-fall or dandruff flakes, sometimes you need to use other kind of shampoo once in a while. And, using shampoo every other day is the right way to do to prevent of hair-fall. Dandruff is caused of not rinsing the hair properly and by using hot water.

Hi! I hope you can give the same grand treatment to your hair in US also. I have to stick to one brand because if I don't I start losing hair and face dandruff problems. I am not sure if dandruff is caused by what you've mentioned. I guess, it's a combination of many things like heredity, fluids, oily food, oily skin, etc. I can say so because I rinse my hair properly and don't use hot water either. But, I must say I have become a slave of my shampoo and can't do without it even for one day.

Yes I do because I really don't want that sticky feeling in my hair from all the dust and smoke when I travel from home to work and vice versa. I'm really not particular with the brand but of course I'm careful into using too much of it because it might do me more harm than good.

Yeah, you're right the greasy and the sticky feeling is a put-off. Kinda distracts you the whole day and affects your normal activities of the day . I have to stick with a particular brand for the problems of hair-loss and dandruff. If I don't the problems reappear again.

Yes i do use shampoo daily and also cream silk. I do use any kind of shampoo i dont put direct it in my head i mixed it with water cause i learn it from someone that it is not good to put shampoo direct to the hair can cause damage.I do use cream silk with alo vera cause it makes my hair grow strong and even more.

Hi! You're right about diluting it first with water in your palm and then using it on your hair. Kinda dilutes the chemicals before introducing it to your hair scalp. Hey, what's cream silk? Never heard of it. I know aloe vera, but am not sure if it is effective for dandruff and/or hair-loss.

Yeah, I agree, shampooing daily is not good for the hair but for me there's no choice. If I stop using shampoo even for one day, my hair starts falling and my dandruff problem reappears. It is shampoo alone which stops both the problems. So, I have kinda become a slave of the shampoo.

I do. I tried not using it at times. It turned out real bad. I got dandruff when I skipped using it. I think my scalp is already used to my shampoo everyday. So far so good. I use it daily and it's just getting better.

Hi nengs, you share the real problem which I face everyday. I don't know if our scalp gets a liking for the particular brand or what. But, I have tried out such an experiment once and believe me it was a nightmare. I lost a chunk of my hair. After that day, I dare not stop using it even for one day. I don't know why this happens. Is it because of some harmful chemical in the shampoo?

I use shampoo only once in a week or so. I use Siddha shampoo made locally. I use it as it has good ayuredic ingredients that stopped my hair falling. Also I use it because I get it for free, actually my relatives bring it for me.

That's nice to know, it's not really necessary for people who don't have problems like hairfall and dandruff. But for me as I face these problems, it becomes necessary to use a particular brand daily otherwise the problem crops up again and again. I wonder if there's some other solution too.

Well, my Mom & Sister use Head& Shoulders for the dandruff problem, so for a while I used it too! Then one day it came into my eyes & it burnt terribly & I swore never to let it near my eyes again!! There are a lot of chemicals in H&S, so I rather stay away from it!! I looked for healthy herbal recipes to make my own 'natural' shampoo, cause I couldn't find a good one in stores. I don't want to put anything dangerous on my head! If I can't pronounce it or wouldn't put it in my mouth, I don't want it on my skin either!! Then I came across sites that recommend 'no shampoo'! At first I thought 'Is it possible?' After reading a bit, I saw some people do fine without shampoo.. Some use soda & water, or salt/vinegar & water (not together, separately)... or other natural recipes.. Some use water only.. Some even use nothing but a hairbrush, or groom their hair with fingers only! I tried several different things but didn't have shampoo near my hair for quite some time now! There is a 'transition', & for a while my hair & scalp got worse - then it got better!! My Sister's hair was actually MUCH worse (dandruff-wise) after going 1 week without shampooing with H&S than mine! (she has VERY long hair too, so washing it takes a lot of time & energy.. washing every day is just not feasible, & it causes hair ends to split too.. because shampoo strips the hair of its natural oils that are its protection) H&S does something to the scalp so you MUST use it again.. & sometimes if you use it too long you can get some problems too (my Mom did) I had a sort of ezcema-ish thingie on my scalp when I still used H&S shampoo, & it disappeared when I stopped using it! (after the transitional phase) A distant relative is said to have cured his skin problems when he stopped using shampoo etc too! So, I hope people are not too grossed out by this, but I recommend everyone to have an open mind. There are a lot of dangerous chemicals in our environment. Especially if many different products react together, no one can tell what reaction that can have to our bodies. Why subject ourselves to more?

Hi ladystrawberry, I appreciate the response you've given to me. I relate with what you've written as I have kinda become a slave of the brand which I am using. I cannot do without it even a single day of the year. The problem of hairfall and dandruff reoccur even if I go without if for one day. I know it is not recommended to use it daily because of the chemical and other harmful stuff, but I am helpless.
