The upcoming VMAs

I've noticed the increasing amount of little pop ads during the shows in MTV. It seems every other commercial on there is about this coming Sunday's VMAs. They're constantly reminding you of the live performences, the special guests, and to get online (or txt) in your votes. What I haven't seen much about is this years host - Russell Brand. What isn't MTV stressing who the host is? Usually, at the end of every ad about it, they say "hosted by .. blahblahblah". They make a big deal about it. Not this year. There are only four ads about it containing Russell Brand. Three are feature him with different celebs (Britney Spears, LL Cool J, and Pete Wentz). Brit and LL get his name wrong and Pete doesn't say much of anything in his. So, I'm wondering why did MTV pick a host that more than half of their audience doesn't even know? I, myself, am exactly excited about this years because I'm a fan of Russell's. I'm a HUGE Noel Fielding fan, and I fell for Russell after seeing them on The Big Fat Quiz of The Year (UK game show like) and the Goth Detectives skit, both on youtube. As soon as I found out, I IMed one of my best friends - freaking out! It took her forever to realize who I was talking about (for those who don't know, he was the rocker in Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Do you have any clue who he is? Are you planning on watching? Do you think it's going to be good this year, considering many people have never heard of Russell?
