One of my friends has got a good job in a school, you know, a teaching job in a key university, the job was offered him i think just because of his good knowledge...but now, he asks me whether he should give his current boss, the dean of his department, for it's the dean's final decision that makes my friend get a way of living. if if were him, would you give the dean a gift, if yes what would it be? if no, why?

Hi friend, how are you friend. I couldn't see you for long time.
It depends on his behaviour. If he is friendly or a kind person or something, surely i give him a present. I prefer to give him a party instead of a present. Its not give nothing to him.

Well, there is nothing wrong with giving the dean a gift as a token of his appreciation... i would do it... if i were in his shoes... and i think a fruit basket would be a nice thank you gift... or something that would brighten his office... like one of those cute paper weights... it would mainly depend on the personality of the dean...

hi dear xoyyox. gifting is very important but there should be a solid reason lest it should appear to be bribe!!let him go and join and develop some relation with the colleagues and the boss. let him draw his first salary and then he can celebrate and at that moment or any such occasion he can think of giving away a gift will be a better idea!!any good suitable thing according to the occasion be chosen as the proper gift!!

If I did get him a gift, it would be a card just to let him know I appreciated him...or maybe take him out for lunch (if that's allowed)...I think anything other than one of those two things would be a bit much.
