Bad! Capital punishment has become a kind of false idol, because people think that it either deters crime (a lie/misconception) or else it is justified as a means of repaying a debt to society (revenge, otherwords). What's worse is that there are people who would like to see executions televised. They say that it's to make it more "real"--but I say that this would just be an excuse for taking "reality TV" a step further down the lane of cheap thrills at the expense of another. "So?" one might say. "Don't the criminals get some kind of cheap thrill out of their crimes?" And that's enough of an answer right there for me: I'm not a criminal and I don't do crimes. Law-abiding society needs to set--and live by--some kind of standards instead of wallowing down there in the mud with the worst of them.
