I love the movie Ratatouille.
I love the art work. In fact, when I was in France, in Paris, I tried looking for the place where Gusto's Restaurant supposedly suppose to be. Well, I of course couldn't find it as Paris is too big to be searching for the location within the short three days that I was there.
Everytime I watch the movie, I never fail to get moved by the last part of the show.
The part where Anton Ego got humbled by the Remy's work of art... the Ratatouille!
The part that moved me the most, is the review of Remy's work after he left the restaurant.
Anton Ego from Ratatouille:
In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment.
We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.
But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends.
Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core.
In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: Anyone can cook.
But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere.
It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France.
I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more.
In short, there is nothing nobody can achieve. But to achieve something, that someone can come from anywhere. Be it cooking or being successful in business, anyone can do it. It is a matter of who or what one will do in order to achieve it.
Very meaningful.
Do you believe you can do it?

i didn't watch the movie yet. but from the way you describe it, it sounds really interesting. it's really a BIG dream for a rat to dream about cooking. not to mention cooking in a human's kitchen. i really like the part where the critics said that 'a great artist can come from anywhere'. it's so true that i can't find anything to say. thanks for sharing and i think i will try to catch this movie. cheers ;p

If you subscribed to cable, it is showing every now and then on the disney channel.
I watched it a few times already on TV.
Enjoyed it a lot a lot.
And like I said, my favorite part is when Anton Ego made is final review for the show. It is really inspiring. And a humbling experience for him as well.
Very well scripted with very interesting and colorful characters!
And with a setting such a Paris, what is not to like about the movie?!?
You should catch it. It is really good!

yes i subscribe to cable but disney channel is not in my package. there is no children at home and my parents prefer the chinese channels. i think i will try to get the dvd / vcd to watch it on a weekend. had wanted to catch the movie but just didn't have the time.
it's always touching to see the 'arrogant' one submit to his defeat. kind of like the climax of the show where the hero gets his due credit. i got a feeling that i'll start to cry at the part.

I had seen Ratatouille at my friends place when we had gone over to do our project work. We went for our project work then while having lunch we started watching the movie and then continued watching the movie and just ignored our project Lolzzz.
The movie was so interesting and nice that we liked it so much. The rat was also so cute and sweet. As far as cooking is concerned I'm a big 0. All the food I eat my mom cooks and gives me. If my parents are not there I order stuff from outside and eat.
I think its time I start learning to make some simple dishes. It would help me in the long run and help me save money too when my mom is not there to cook for me. Hehehe...

Yep yep yep... anyone can cook! If you put your heart and mind to it, you can definitely make it as a cook. Not a chef maybe, but definitely a cook.
I too have been cooking for years, and I still got a long way to go in the learning process.
Everyday, you will discover new recipes to work with. Even the current ones you have, still needs fine tuning every now and then.
