I got braces as an adult, unlike alot of people that got them when they were teenages. I got them mostly for cosmetic reasons crooked smile etc., but I also had a few other reasons, such as gaps in the back allowed food to get under the gum line and caused infection, which is really not fun even compared to getting braces. There is some pain involved with getting them. I had to have a couple of teeth removed before they could be put on, which was obviously painful. When you first get them your teeth are really sensative and hurt so no solid food or anything too hard the first few days and it is also like that after they tighten them for about a day. So if you are getting them stock up on the mashed potatoes, protien drinks and yogert. I was really self conscious about mine and did not like smiling wih them on, but the wait was worth it. My teeth are now straight and my smile looks alot better and I do not have any of the other problems anymore.

hmmm reading your post i was reminded that i did experience excruciating pain during the earliest stages of wearing braces. it was when one of my premolars was removed and the tooth next to it had this band attached to another molar with the gap in between. it was placed over the brackets to close the gap. i remember how it was hard to eat at first, but i still ate solid food like pasta and rice. it hurts only when i chew on the tooth being pulled by the bank. aside from that, tightening didn't really bother me.

I'm getting braces in about a month and I heard it's easy to adjust after the first week but it builds a lot of saliva in your mouth. The only reason I'm getting braces is to straighten out my teeth and to remove my gap. I always thought I needed braces but never got them, now I decided to finally get them and I'm kind of nervous because I heard it hurts when they are tightening it. My cousin previously wore braces and took them off. The results where outstanding and she looks wonderful now compared to her old self.

I never wear braces because I don't feel I needed one. Well, others use braces just to make their smiles cute with braces and others too really have a bad formation of their teeth that is why it needs to have one. For me, if it is not really necessary to have braces, there's no reason to suffer from discomfort. I have a friend who want to have braces to make her look cute with braces.. she never have a bad formation of teeth, she just want to have one for social icon. and that is not advisable I think. But if the teeth really needs to be fixed, braces would helped.

i wore braces for 5 years, and then retainers for another 4 years on and off i think... i only stopped after i lost my upper retainers lol. in my opinion, it's a lot more painful w/ retainers. the application of the braces was pretty painful, but after that, the worst i felt is the sensation much like when your foot is asleep. i don't think i had a problem eating with braces on. i did stop eating gum and chewy candy, but it didn't really bother me as i'm not that big on candy. i also had to stop munching on ice since it makes the cement brittle. i had to brush very well though to avoid getting cavities and bad breath. the only time my braces really bothered me was when i started to bear rubber bands to correct my overbite. it gave me headache. i had a harder time with retainers especially after i've stopped wearing them for a while (i didn't use them regularly as directed lol). it hurts a lot, and it gives me a headache, so i have to put them on when i sleep so i won't feel any pain and by morning, my teeth and gums would've gotten used to them again.

I worn braces for 2 yrs in middle school and got them taken off right before high school. They were the best thing that could have happened to me at that period in my life. I used to have trouble eating but of course like everything else it got better with time. The only thing that bothered me most was when I would have to wear rubber bands....I though it was so cool but it didn't feel so cool when they would first put them on. The braces would sometime rub against the inside of my jaws and lips very irritating but all in all i enjoyed them!!!

No, I have never worn teeth braces anytime although, but I feel that its difficult to eat anything with braces on your teeth. Moreover, it doesn't look nice at all to have braces on your teeth. I had a few friends who had braces on their teeth, but I felt that it looked quite ugly. Now, I too, having teeth problem , they all are coming out, I think I, too, will have to go for braces. But frankly speaking, I don't like the idea. Is there not any other solution to it, I really hate them and more to say, how will I ever eat food with it.

I wore them in my teens. Hated it, esp when it was time to tighten them. They wanted to put them on my lower teeth too but I said no as you can't see them when I talk x

Yes, in fact I am wearing braces right now. I had a hard time dealing with it the first two weeks and yes, the pain is really agonizing.
