Charles dickens must of had a terrible childhood because in everyone one of his books he writes of death or despair. Oliver twist is the despair part but it is good. I like the book because even in the face of adversity Oliver manages to survive. I also like it because it has cool names like the artful dodger. what do you people think of the book?

yes, i read somewhere charles dickens was born poor and had to live in an attic when he started his writing career until he got his first great novel published, that was "a christmas carol", and then the rest is history. that was probably why dickens always had sympathy for people in the lower class reflected in his books. in "oliver twist", it may be a sad story but it teaches us a lot of moral lessons especially in treating those unfortunate ones, much so with "a christmas carol". dickens loves to write books that touch our hearts...

The book is a well known classic, portrays a good likening to life lead my many poor people in the period. Love the names he has chosen for his chatacters. The book was made into a well watched filn with Jack Wilde (sadly no longer with us) and Mark Lester, Oliver Reid and Shani Wallis. They did real justice for the book and even today my children love the same film I watched as a child. I think this will always be a great classic book
