I remember when I was coming up bicycles were the thing. Everybody had a bicycle, it was a kids way of transportation. Just about every Christmas, if you didn't have one that is what you got. There is a saying that you never forget how to ride a bicycle. When I first moved in my house, it was children everywhere, and for some reason they all ended up in my yard on bicycles. I haven't been on one now in years. Bicycles are now used for exercise. My Grand boys has brand new bicycles, but you can't get them off those video games long enough to ride them. I feel like they don't get enough outside exercise, but I am just the grandmother,I try to express my grandmother rights, I am talking to deaf ears sometime. Do you know how to ride a bicycle? Did you get a bicycle for Christmas? (when you were a child) Have you bought your child a bicycle?

I love riding bikes. When we lived in Georgia we were close to a trail made especially for bikers, and rode on it often. It really is good exercise. When we moved we had to get rid of the bikes becasue we didn't have anywhere to keep them or time to ride. I really miss my bike.

The idea of play has changed dramatically over the last ten years or so; you will get no argument from me on that front! When I was a child in the late 70's and early 80's we built forts and climbed trees; building sites were places where we played armies and pelted each other with sand clumps; and we would ride our bikes everywhere for hours on end. I remember on Christmas when I got a bike and was actually disappointed because all of my friends were given BMX bikes but I was given a racing bike. I never lived this down with my friends and was absolutely devastated! lol. My children are not living with me but yes they both have bikes and they are encouraged to ride them as often as possible. All toys and games these days seem to be geared towards making kids as least social and as least active as possible. It is really quite sad when you think about it.

Good they are encouraged to ride, children need exercise, there are more obese children now than there were back in the 60's 70's and 80's.

I don't remember when I first got a bike, Christmas or a birthday. It, or my feet, were my main mode of transportation, most of my younger years. I'd say, if those boys want to go someplace, and it wouldn't endanger them, I'd be telling them to hop on the bike. I can never think of bicycles, without remembering the time my brother decided to make some extra money. He sold parts off my bike. I could have strangled him. lol

aww! Siblings can be such a pain, can't they? But, at least you still had a bike when he got back. What really burned me up was, he had a bike of his own, he could have sold parts off of. Of course, then he wouldn't have had one to ride. lol

When I was in my twenties, I would bike around using my brother's bike, Oh how difficult was the process I went through before I learned biking. Scratches on my legs, bones almost displaced and lots of falls that really hurt my body. My brother would always scold me and told me you are a woman and you are not supposed to bike so he never took any effort to help me learn biking no matter how hard I begged of him. Know what? I learned biking through my own effort. I just tried hard to balance myself and looked straight on the road while my feet were running the pedals. And from there I was able to learn the art of biking. When I got married, my husband owned a racer bike which I can't even use because my feet could not reach the pedals. I therefore did not have a chance since then to ride a bicycles anymore till I gave birth and till now. One time I went to my Mom's house for a visit and I saw a new bicycle. I rode the bike with all excitement but you know what... I did not know how to start? I learned from there that I've forgotten this skill. I could not bike anymore. I've totally forgotten how to! So I would say that it is not true that one will never forget how to bike. I've forgotten and that is true! Yes, I can still ride but I can no longer run it!

Ohh...I'm so ashamed .... we had bicycles and everyone - my siblings, friends, classmates and neighbours - could ride a bicycle, except me. I don't seem to be able to balance myself. Even now, I still haven't got the hang of it - maybe I should try the tricycle my nephews and niece have!

Yes it's been years since I ride a bicycle. Last to Last Sunday I was getting kinda late to visit my friend who lived near by the church. I needed to collect some of my magazines from her. But going there on foot could have a consumed a lot of time. I rather grabbed girl's bicycle in church to visit my friend.. not know if I still remember how to ride a bicycle... but woah.. Yeppi I still remember how to ride it!! I made it to her house without falling any where lol!! And as the matter of fact I actually gave an excellent performance!! I am so proud of my self!! I really love riding bicycles.. but my own bike is all old and rusted now and no one's care to get it fixed... but I will get my self a new bicycle as soon as possible. I need to stay in shape as!!!and look its environmental friendly as well!!

I never learned how to ride a bike but I always enjoyed riding on it with my cousins when I was young. They take me for a ride on it since I don't know how to ride it. I was too scared to fall of it so I never learned. My son has a bike at home but It's broken now. NO money to have it repaired or buy a new one.

I know how to ride one, I didn't get one for christmas but I had the same bike as a kid for like five years. We got it at a rummage sale. I don't have children, but if I ever do someday I will definitely get my kid one. I suppose it's 'cause growing up I never was that interested in video games. I had little hand-held games and would occasionally play on the pc occasionally, but...I spent most of my time outside growing up on our farm. Playing in the garden, with the animals, pretending to be a fairy, or an animal, or setting up little zoos and farms outside with my toys. Inside wasn't fun, outside was fun. Nowadays I don't think parents tell their kids how much fun outside is ^_^' and they stay cooped up in the house all the time, so there's a disconnect between what's considered play now and what was considered play before. I'm actually not sure that this'll be good for their overall health, growing up. Because play is a large part of how kids learn, when their play is staring at a screen...what're they learning? Besides they need more fresh air, sunshine, and exercise as a rule...bleh, but here I am going off on a tangent and I'm not even middle-aged yet, lmao.

I used to love riding a bike. When my brother and I lived at my Dad's we used to go bike riding with my Stepmom. It was great. I kind of grew out of it but one day I'd like to try it again. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I use to ride a bike when i was a child we always had bikes to ride and enjoyed going on bike rides as we would go on rides as a family. We would bike for miles and enjoy every minute of it. I havn't been on a bike since i was 13 so have no idea if i still could ride one. All my children, apart from my 16 year old who has on interest in them, have bikes my 11 and 15 year old love to go out on bike rides weather permitting. At one stage they would be out every morning for a ride. My 7 year old is just learning to ride a two wheeler he just hasn't build up enough confidence yet to ride it far Even my two year old has a trike he hasn't quite mastered pedaling yet but am sure he will get there when ready.

Its true. You never forget how to ride a cycle. My first bike was a Humber my father bought for me. Years later I rode a motorbike for about 11 years. I'm sure I could still ride. You just don't forget.

I didn't have a bike when I was younger, my mom had 10 kids to raise alone, and we really couldn't afford one.. As soon as the older ones in the family got jobs, we had bikes and I did learn to ride one.. My son had a big wheel for his first birthday and rode the wheels off of it as soon as he got old enough to ride it.. After that we got him a motorcycle that was battery operated and he rode it until he wore it out, then we got him a bike and he rode it until he wore it out, then it was another one, then another one, until he got too old to be out riding one.. I do remember many a summer days when all of the neighborhood kids rode their bikes all day long and all of them came to my house for Kool-Aid or Cokes, snacks and a few minutes rest while getting ready to go again.. You are right, too many kids are spending too much time on computer games and that is sad.. We need a revival of the "Good Old Days", wouldn't that be nice..

The last time I tried riding a bicycle, I was pretty wobbly. I rode one everywhere when I was a kid. Either that or those old skates (with a key...that slipped over your shoes). Now with a bad knee and bad back, it hurts to try. My son got his first bike at about 8, I guess. Now - in my neighborhood - kids are getting bikes at 4. Little things with training wheels. What ever happened to tricycles?

i do have a bicycle when i was a child... my parents bought it for me... but i hardly have any chance to ride it as i live in a neighbourhood that is not that safe to ride it... and yes, children nowadays hardly play with bicycle anymore... computer games and playstations had replaced it which is really sad... take care and have a nice day...

Bicycles, the very first vehicle driven by people. I still remember the first day when I started to learn my bicycle. That was a very good experience at that age. Yes, you are absolutely right that we cannot forget riding bicycle. This is just a matter of balancing yourself.
