What are you doing about naps? Do you have a nap in the day?

According to health experts; although they're difficult to accommodate, naps are considered good for your health and daily performance. What are you doing about naps? Do you have a nap in the day? Do you love and regularly have naps? Would you like to have a nap but don't have a chance? Are you in one of those countries with a siesta perhaps? Or maybe you don't like it and don't nap?

Yea. I've heard of that. Naps are good but too bad.. siesta is not practiced in my country. This afternoon, I was so tired that I took a 3 minutes power nap. That helps a little. 3 minutes is better than nothing, although I still prefer to take a nap on my soft comfy bed.

This is what I found in wiki A power-nap is a short sleep which terminates before the occurrence of deep sleep or slow-wave sleep (SWS), intended to quickly revitalize the subject from drowsiness.

Thanks for that Poohgal, now I should try and put it to practice!

Yes, siesta is very common here in my country. I do take a quick nap in the afternoon. Maybe some like 15 minutes or 30 minutes the most. Even at work, during my break i take a quick nap to rest my eyes and my mind. Though i can't get to sleep i just close my eyes and try to relax for a few minutes to be ready to face the rest of the day. Nice day to you.

Yes, it is. Once i got as check up from my eye doctor and he said that my eyes are running dry because i spent too much time infront of the computer. There is this sharp stinging pain i feel in my eyes. I was asked to rest my eyes as often as i can or it will be much worse. So, now i rest my eyes whenever i can, cause i can't give up being on my computer and mylotting, at least that's a compromise. Have a god nap too! good day to you!

Well I live in the USA, We do not have siestas here. But I do not work and am home all of the time, I have been disabled for over 22 years. I do lay down at times because I must lay on ice backs for my neck and back. But I have never been able to take naps in the daytime. I wish that I could. The only time I can take a nap is if I am very sick, or am on a lot of medication after surgury or something like that.

When I was little, we always had to have a nap after lunch during holidays and I hated it and vowed that 'when I grow up, I will never nap during the day' Still don't and I do not ask mine to nap if they do not want to...I do have trouble sleeping at night though if I did, so I guess that's the main reason Hope your back and neck feel better happy myLotting

Hi marina. If I don't sleep well at night time I like to have a nap like a cat LOL. Sometimes I can but sometimes don't. It depends of the things I have to do in the day. Cheers and have a nice day.

It depends of the things I have to do in the day. Yeah, I suppose it would be possible to squeeze in a nap at the weekends

I've heard that naps are good for you, but I've never been a nap person. I've never been able to take a nap during the day, I've felt like I needed to, but if I try I can't do it, I can't go to sleep..lol. To me I always felt lazy if I did nap, I didn't feel like doing anything for the rest of the day.

I can't nap during the day. Earlier, if I was really tired, A 5 minute power nap would do the trick...but I prefer NOT taking naps during the day. But now, with a toddler and my work...I get tired easily and if I haven't slept well at night, I tend to doze off in the afternoon with the baby sometimes. I'm from India...where a siesta is common....and most people who are at home do take a nap in the afternoon.

When I was a stay at home mom, I used to try and get all my work done while my baby was napping. But a friend told me that I needed to nap when the baby does to work effectively (I was always tired before that). So, I would get up VERY early in the morning to finish all my chores(including cooking for the day) when the family was sleeping and nap when the baby napped later in the day. I found out that I was fresher in the morning and could go to bed early - an hour or so after baby - because all my work was done (except the dinner dishes) and I was able to get a good night's sleep (along with the afternoon nap) AND able to spend quality time with the baby (all his waking hours, I would be with him and taking care of his needs and not doing something else that needed doing).

It is easier done when you're at home, yes.. Although I have a toddler and work too, because I am at work all day, I'd not be able to nap though I do get sleepy and grumpy! I find it hard to get myself to have a nap when I am at home and my toddler has one as I think it's time to do all the things I need to do before she wakes again

...If you have insomnia, it is bad to take a nap during the day. It makes it more difficult to sleep at night when you need to. ...Once, I read a 20 minute nap is good for you. However, how many people can nap for just 20 minutes? ...Peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della

how many people can nap for just 20 minutes? I'd probably spend the first ten minutes trying to nap, then the next ten hoping I don't oversleep

I actually dun like naps, especially napping in the afternoon, because it will only make me even more tired when i wake up in the evening.. And if i dun wake up in the evening, i will be even more tired when i wake up the next day.. I only took nap when i was working as baker in the past whereby i sleep at 2am everyday and waking up at 615am, thus i need the nap badly, if not i wun be able to stay fresh for the whole day and i will fall sick.. hehe BUt once i'm no longer a baker, i dun take naps anymore, plus taking naps can be a addiction too ^_^

If I'm working, there's no way I could get away with a nap - unless I'm having my lunch in the office, and then steal a 10 minutes shut-eye at my cubicle. However, if I'm home, I'd take an afternoon nap - it could last from 15 minutes to 2 hours! And I'd wake up very refreshed, sometimes so energetic, that I could not sleep at night!

10 minutes shut-eye at my cubicle At least you've got a cubicle, ours is open-plan! if I'm home, I'd take an afternoon nap - it could last from 15 minutes to 2 hours! And I'd wake up very refreshed, sometimes so energetic, that I could not sleep at night! Good for you! I would wake up feeling more tired and lazy when I had a nap so I don't anymore..

I used to love it when my kids were nap age, I would lay down and take one with them, but unfortunately, they've outgrown naps, so I don't get one any more either. Occasionally, on a rainy day, I can get them to quietly play in their rooms while I take a 20 minute power nap. I find I just feel so much more recharged after a power nap. I've also been known to nap in the car while my child has his therapy sessions. It just makes me feel so much better.

The last nap I ever took were 2 years ago and I take because the night before were not possible to sleep. Now at the work, it's not possible to take naps.. even if we have a lunch time from 1 to 3 pm.. I think that I don't like to sleep a lot.. I choose to leave the dreams by the time I die. I spend to many night trying to sleep but is always difficult because I have so many things to think about.. I don't like start to sleep but I love to keep sleeping after few hours of dream..

well, it's actually only 1 hour.. but everyone takes 2 hours to lunch and to do other things.. so, I do the same.. who wants to be a perfect worker if at the end of the month the salary won't increase? so, everyone works only for what we got at the end of the month.. nothing more..

Sometimes, when I'm traveling I nap. But it is not a common or frequent occurrence, as I do have insomniac tendencies. I don't love any kind of sleep, lol. I'm perfectly healthy, so I guess it doesn't much matter.

when I'm traveling I nap I do try sometimes when I'm travelling, but most times half-asleep as worried I'd miss my stop so that would be a real cat nap...

I don't necessarily like napping, but I do it a few times a week. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and a load of other maladies. Often times, I can feel the energy draining from me and know that I have about 15 minutes before my body will shut down and I'll have to nap. Once, I was at church with about 20-25 other people, watching a football game on the big screen. (Bengals vs Steelers). In the midst of the shouting, I leaned over and told my hubby that I was "shutting down." Sure enough. I lay my head on the table and slept, in the midst of all the noise. When I woke up about 45 minutes later, I was energized, but the game was almost over. If nothing else, it helped the people at my church understand that when I say I'm too tired to do something, they believe me.

There is nothing better than having a nice quiet afternoon and being able to take a nap if you feel like it. I love that!!! I always seem to want to nap around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, which is way too late for me....I would never fall asleep if napped that late. I actually asked a Dr. once and they said it is normal for the human body to want to nap between the hours of 2 and 5 in the afternoon. I say if you can take a nap, go for it!!!

I grow up in a family where siestas was a must, every day right after lunch, about 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and when you woke up an hour later you had merienda time. For me it was an annoyance, I wanted to play, watched TV, besides as I was reaching my 11th I noticed that I got headaches after the siesta. So at about 18 I quit the siestas. I suffer from migraines and I have learned that siestas are not good for me. Now if I had a bad night, definitely a nap will help me perform better.

We also used to have to nap after school and lunch when we were younger and yes, we did want to play too and it annoyed the heck out of us! I stopped napping too partly because of that but I always want to get a lot done in the day and still do even when I am tired
