Is the Mongol Empire the largest empire ever built? Or is it the British Empire?

What do you think? The Mongol Empire of the 12th century covered huge areas in Eurasia, stretching from Korea in the East to nearly Hungary in the West, from Siberia in the North to part of India in the South... All through brute forces with their cavalries. On the other hand, the British Empire of the 18th century was created through colonization, trading and navy forces, capturing huge amount of lands in Canada, Australia, India, Middle East regions, Southeast Asia regions, etc.
