Do you have an alarm system for your home? Has it ever gone off by accident or for the real deal?
My husband worked for a security alarm company, he decided to sign us up for one. We really did not need it. It has gone off twice, when I was cooking and too much smoke was in the kitchen, the fire alarm went off. Minutes there was a ring at the door, and it was the police, not the firemen. They said that they had receive a panic warning coming from our address. My husband explained that the fire alarm had gone off, they still wanted to come into the house to make sure everything was okay, this happened twice. I think now it is set so that the fire alarm goes to the fire department and the panic will go to the police station.

My system is really great. My fire alarm went off twice they call me. on the system to make sure first. And twice when my roommate forgot it was on and went outside. They called as well, which is a good thing because if they come and it's a false alarm it costs after the first one it is $25.00 then $50.00 and so on. So yes mine call's me first and there is a code you have to tell them if it is ok.

That is great that your security will call first before coming, that does avoid false alarms, in case someone else really needs them and they are investigating something that is not happening. I guess we are not fined for false alarms, becase it has happened twice, and I have not seen an increase on my bill.

We don't have one in our home, we never have. However, this is funny - we have the ADT sticker in the window of our kitchen, so people always assume we have a security alarm system! I guess the previous owners had it at one time, hence the sticker.
I really don't know why but we have never felt the need to have one. At our old house we had bars on the windows because the neighborhood had a lot of burglaries, but in our present home the neighborhood is very safe so we never felt the need. I don't even know how expensive it is.

Yeah that is funny, you have a psuedo alarm system
Whatever works to keep the burglers away.
The alarm systems we have is an exspense that we can do without. My husband signed us up because he was working for the company at the time. We have a two year contract, and at that time I am going to cancel it. I live in a pretty safe neighborhood, we do not even lock our car doors every night.

We don't have one in our home, but when I owned my pet store we had one in the store. It went off a good half dozen times in the course of year from various animals getting out of their cage. But when we were broken into, I was quite happy we had it. There was some damage to my store & a couple items stolen but the thief wasn't able to steal much since I am sure he wanted to get out before the police got there.

Yes, they can be good for the bad guy not want to hang around too long. We have cats, and the alarm is never armed. It is supposed to have some sort of sensor that will make it not go off because of the ativities of animals. The smoke detector is the only part of it that is active.

I know you are talking about the alarm system where they fix it in the house. We never have it before. But we (my husband and I ) did have a live alarm system. And that's our dog
The one you see on my profile picture....that's our alarm system. Any slight sound of people at the door she will notify us by barking not loud but a woof.
But sadly our live alarm passed away this year on Feb 14 2008 so now we don't have anymore live alarm.......

We have had lived here for about 27 years without a problem. Then, my husband came home one afternoon after being at the hospital with our daughter and found our back door busted in and lots of things stolen. So, within two weeks, we had a security alarm system put in. That's been about 5 1/2 years ago. Our alarm has went off a few times, but every time it was something within the house. Most of the time it is from one of the motion detectors in the basement. We haven't figured that one out yet. But the very first time we got a call from our security company, it was the motion detector in our Den. We had to rush home, the neighbor had come to check and the sheriff was here. But, we found out it was our automatic gas logs coming on! We had forgotten to turn them off when we left, so when they flashed on high, it set the alarm off. We chose not to have the smoke alarm set because we only have a volunteer fire department here in our area in the country.

Sorry about your previous break in. Many times when the bad guys see the security sign they will try someplace else. Happy to hear that there were no more recent break ins. Our smoke detector is active but the break in part is not.
