What Happened To Democracy?

This is not a rant or even a chastisement of any kind.
I'm not even angry - just totally disillusioned with.....
There are people in this world who get an idea in their heads and no amount of shaking that head is going to cause that idea to fall out their ears and into the trash where it belongs. Instead, these people will work that idea into a whole life scenario and and work it and work it until the object of their 'affliction' is either driven to howling at the moon, or retreating within themselves to the point of pain.
Facts and truths are not even considered. Personalities and personal styles of expression are not even considered. No quarter is given to the details left out, or the ENTIRE picture - only the myopic view.
An idea takes hold and these people run with it, bulldozing their way through apologies, attempts to explain, the 'object's' own right to THEIR opinion.
We are not cookie cutter individuals. We can not be held accountable for the thoughts, desires, actions or beliefs of others.
So why do we try to make everyone we have a 'problem' with conform to OUR idea of who they are, who they should be, what WE demand of them? It's nonsense.
The lack of tolerance, the outright warping of perceptions, the GRIEF we bring to ourselves and others around us when we demand conformity from them should be against the laws of God and man.
Most of us live in a democratic society. But we no longer practice it. We are all too busy asserting ourselves, our rights and frankly, our need to be accepted.
Well if being accepted means conforming - you can have it.
As I said, we are not cookie cutter individuals. How boring life would be if that were true. What a loss of art, beauty and progress we would be forced to endure.
Look around you people. Look at your neighbours, your friends and your own hearts.
Are you democratic, or do you demand democracy for yourself while denying it to others?

Some people believe in the saying, "my way or no way". That's when I balk! I think we all have a right to our opinions. But, please let me get mine in before you tell me I have no right to believe/say what I want to believe/say. You are right; we are all different, and we should respect that in each other. I have a very hard time with people who want to do all the talking and never listen to what I have to say. When I personally have a problem with someone, there is no way I'm going to try and transform them. I'd rather just get out of the way and let them do their thing - just leave me alone. I thank God we are all different! Otherwise, there would be absolutely nothing to talk about on these forums.

LOL - well you have a point about nothing to talk about on these forums Barb!
As you say - everyone has a right to their opinion. That's what makes us individuals really - differing opinions. Makes me sad that some people just can't appreciate that. Glad you're one of the democratic ones, and hey - I'll ALWAYS let you have your say, and THEN I'll get out of your way! ROFL Hugs.

Exactly!
Yes, we lost democracy here on the lot for sure.
Everyone seems to be too afraid to express themselves now.
It is pretty boring around here lately because of it. It's pretty sad, but it does show how much the TRULY REAL and interesting posters are missed though. Like you, for example.

Hey ladies.
Annie - you are so right. And clever you to get the point of this discussion.......!
Barb - most of us who have been here awhile don't give a fig for the stars really.
Mine keeps dropping even though I'm barely here and all that tells me is that what REALLY makes this site so sad now is still a problem. Not because of being 'afraid' my star will go down, but my star going down is an indicator that if people here don't like you for whatever reason, they will act out like children against you in whatever way they can - verbal, or 'behind the scenes' by false ratings and THAT is what makes people afraid to post - the negativity and 'censorship' practiced against them.

Sparks, I got that attitude last night posting in politics. I said, to heck with it. If I can't be free to post how I feel, why stay? So I just sort of mixed it a little, and come what may! If others can say what they want, then they have to hear me out, as well. Besides, those stars don't pay me; mylot does!

Annie, I believe you would see people open up more if the "stars" disappeared completely. So many are afraid to lose a point or two if they speak their mind. I have said I hate to post in a couple of categories because I am sure I'd get a minus or two, maybe more. It is sad that this is a chat forum, yet people are really afraid to chat or express their true opinions and just skip lots of discussions! And, yes, we miss Sparks discussions.

Nope, no democracy here. 3 deleted in 3 days, what a record, eh?
Makes me sick. What a bunch of losers to waste their day reporting nothing.

You know what bugs me? Even if they don't use all capitals or lots of exclamation points, the word choices when someone disagrees show that if he/she was standing in front of you he/she would definitely be shouting. But then, of course, in person perhaps he/she would not be so brave.
Think about it. There are all kinds of people in your neighborhood, probably. Or in your church or other social groups. But how many shouting matches happen in person? Very few...for civilized people.
And yet here, hiding behind a computer screen, people think it's perfectly okay to shout, to call names (seriously...how many times must a person use the term "moron" before he/she becomes one), to ridicule and to NOT answer the doggone questions or dispute the facts.
Okay. Thanks...for letting me vent a bit.

LOL Kenzie, well said and I totally agree. I'm guilty of using caps on words that I really really want the reader to pay attention to and have been accused many times of shouting. But you know what? Some people just need to be shouted at!
However, many people here do it too much and in an abusive way, and that's just not right. Like you say, they hide behind their computers and that makes them cowards, not worth giving the time of day to. Unfortunately, we can't get away from them easily here......

Am I that bad? I know I don't threaten you.
