hi aniakim!
yes. i always feel sleepy during mass. i don't know why. i do my best to listen to the priest and i even sing along with the choir. but when the priest starts talking about his sermon, i often get sleepy. its like, the priest's voice is a lullaby. i don't mean to not listen but i just can't help feeling sleepy. and sometimes when its hot, the hot weather would make me feel sleepy too. and also the air from the electric fans. so no matter how hard i open my ears and mind to the sermon, i don't catch all the wisdom in it because i am feeling sleepy. ^__^;; no matter what kind of mass is it, morning mass, evening mass, i feel sleepy and starts to yawn. sometimes i wouldn't be able to fight it and my eyes would close on its own and my head would drop for a second and i'm awake again. and it would continue until the priest's sermon is over. ^__^;;

The noise of the fans can have a hypnotic effect and therefore make you feel sleepy.

Well, here is my take on this topic. I do not attend mass, though, I do go to church, and unfortunately, since the beginning of attending church over 5 years ago for the first time, I go tired. I go tired not because I am bored of anything at church, but because I am usually working on a project the night before. This is just like now, I am typing messages and responses to my fellow mylotter's discussions and working on other project's on-line to help my family live more comfortably. I work better at night as I have since college when I did most of my studying at night. I do all that I can to stay awake during church because the message is always something that I feel is important and needed each and every day. So, lo and behold, yes, I am tired, yawning and my eyes tear from sleeplessness, but again, it is not because of the message at church given by the pastor, but because of my schedule and my working late at night; each night during the week.

If God is love, then there can only be appreciation that you made it to worship.
Don't worry so much. If you believe God loves you, then there is no reason for guilt as you are doing what is expected of you.
Being a good person should not make anyone feel guilty.
I know you don't mention the word guilt in your resonse, but from what is written it sounds like it is there in the back of you mind, a slight doubt or worry.
God also doesn't ask you to justify yourself. Your family need to be cared for and that is as it should be.

me, i'm guilty as heck. hehe, that is why i opted to stay at the back of the church (near the door) and just stand. almost every sunday, i would stand near one of the church's entrance and attend the mass in that stance---from start to finish.
i would see church goers snoozing off, particularly during the homily. and i would say to myself, i used to be just like them.

I've never been to a mass in my life!
I believe in thinking for yourself and if that does lead to religion then so be it.
I have beliefs and they hold me well without any additional support.
I think if God does exist then he'd just be happy you'd made the effort.
Don't worry so much :)
