Stephen King's The Stand: Time for a Theatrical Remake?

Being that three hour blockbusters are more acceptable now than they were 10/20 years ago, do you think it would be a good idea to remake Stephen King's The Stand and bring it to the big screen this time around? It would make for a perfect 3 hour movie, if done the right way, make it rated R, and quality special effects (not the crappy ones at the end of the original mini series). It deserves to be remade, it is the ultimate super virus/plague story. What's everyone think?

I think they should do a trilogy thing so that you get as much detail. But, please, leave Molly Ringwald out. She was so badly miscast that it ruined it for me. If they had to cast a Brat Packer in that role, why not Demi Moore? She would have been perfect.
