Is it bad to help others(for free) nowadays?

Last Saturday, while helping a friend install a program in his computer, he asked me if how much would I earn in helping others solve problems in their computers. I told him that I help others for free. My friend was shocked and told me that everything nowadays has a price, especially skills in computers. But what I have observed from helping others for free is that my skills improve faster than those who only think of what they will be earning or the favors they will be getting in return. Just like in myLot, if you start discussions just for the sake of earning money, you don't improve as much as the one who shares his/her ideas for the people who are in need.

In helping family and friends you don't need to ask fees for that, that's your own will to help them. But if someone that out of family and friends ask your service to do something, they will going to pay your time, coz time is gold and we not waste that for nothing, and nowadays money is important specially that everythings gone up! Happy myloting, cheers!

I think helping people with free is depends on the conditions. If I help friend, my relative I will actually not charge them some money. But for other people there is two ways. The first way is still free, I means that like you, you help other people to slove their computer problem, in this condition you don't need to put out or use your money to help them. So I think I won't charge them. Helping people is very good and also we must realize that we are social human being. The second is we helping them but we need to put out some money to slove their problems. So I will charge them base on the money that put out. I think it is fair. Keep post happy myLotting...

I think helping friends and family out for no charge is being a good friend. While yes, you might want to charge a friend of a friend of a friend etc, even then I usually do stuff like that as a favor for my friend. It falls in the same category as when you help a friend move, or cook them dinner when they're sick; to me it just seems like common courtesy. Besides, a task like that is much more fulfilling when you're not getting some sort of reward for it. We're supposed to treat others as we would want to be treated; isn't that the golden rule? And I wouldn't want one of my friends to hand me a bill if I needed a favor.
