Avatar Attraction - What do you find attractive in other people's avatars?

There was a great discussion the other day about Avatar Napping.... Well it set me to thinking about Avatar's and the role they play in a community. I thought about how my eye continually slides to "certain" avitars and bypass others. I noticed that I will often click on someone's avatar and go and read up on that person. Once I am there, I will have a tendancy to look at who "their" friends are. If I see an avatar I like, I then often go to check that person out. I made my own Avatar but it is just something I made from something I saw. So now we get to the questions ... If I wanted to make a great - eye catching Avatar, what should I do? What should I include? What should not include? What attracks you to someone else's Avatar?

An avatar is a matter of personal preference. It should say a little about who you are as a person, or what you like. Mine says I like Jason and Elizabeth from General Hospital and anyone who recognizes them instantly knows I am a HUGE GH fan. What attracts me to someone else's avatar is the clarity, the message, what does it stand for and yeah, some are really nice when animated. I have made a whole bunch of General Hospital avatars by the way. If you would like to see them and take one, be my guest, they are up for grabs! They can be found here: www.public.fotki.com/laurieluvsliason/avatars-for-grabs/ Enjoy! I will be making some more real soon!

Nice job... I enjoyed your site. I am not much on GH :-) but it is good to see passion in others.

I think they become a personal badge we choose them for a reason, maybe at first that reason is only apparant to the user, we can then identify that person quickly as we move around mylot.

I love your Avatar. :-) I remember the first time I saw it. I have to admit it drew my eye and made me wonder more about what sort of person you were. :-) It was infact one of the reasons I started this discussion. It was so unique and different I began to question what causes people to create or use specific Avatars and what draws people to use them.
